The Australian Government has announced the applications for Colombo Direct Aid Program 2022-23 to support projects with a strong development focus that complement Australia’s broader aid program which contributes to sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction.
The Direct Aid Program (DAP) is a flexible and competitive small grants program funded by the Australian Government and managed through the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade’s (DFAT) overseas posts. DAP projects should promote a distinctive and positive image of Australia.
DAP projects cover a range of sectors such as education, health, water and sanitation, environmental protection, women’s empowerment and gender equality, supporting people with disabilities, economic livelihoods, food security and human rights.
DAP projects engage a wide range of partners including community groups, non-government organisations, educational institutions and local governments. Through helping people in need they can show Australia is a supportive and trusted partner in addressing aid challenges in partner countries.
Preference will be given to projects that address one or more of the following:
- For Sri Lanka projects
- Support economy recovery including sustainable and inclusive livelihood opportunities for women, people with a disability, returning migrant workers, informal sector workers and the urban poor; and
- Promote stable, cohesive and inclusive societies including activities relating to governance, social protection, gender-based violence and food security.
- For Maldives projects
- Promote stable, cohesive and inclusive societies including activities relating to governance, social protection, gender-based violence and environmental security; and
- Support economy recovery including sustainable and inclusive livelihood opportunities for women and people with a disability.
Funding Information
- Sri Lankan proposals to have a maximum cost of AUD 60,000 and a specified duration of up to one year.
- The Maldives proposal to have a maximum cost of AUD 40,000 and a specified duration of up to two years.
Eligibility Criteria
- DAP is available on a not-for-profit basis to legally registered community groups, local or international non-government organisations (NGOs), academic bodies, independent institutions or associations (projects cannot be submitted by individuals), based in, or with an office in Sri Lanka or Maldives.
- All projects proposals funded under DAP must:
- Qualify as Official Development Assistance (ODA) (as defined by the OECD).
- Be from a legally registered community group, international or local non-government organisation (NGO), academic body, independent institution or association (projects cannot be submitted by individuals), based in, or with an office in Sri Lanka or Maldives.
