The Administrator of the Administration for Community Living is currently inviting applications for its Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP) Program: Health Services Delivery Models with an aim to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act by developing methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technologies that advance a wide range of independent living and employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most significant disabilities.
Objectives
- Generate new knowledge about emerging health service delivery models that support successful outcomes for individuals with disabilities;
- Identify promising health service delivery model components that are associated with desired outcomes for individuals with disabilities;
- Generate new knowledge of the effectiveness of promising health service delivery models components through the implementation and testing of those practices.
Priorities
- Increasing knowledge of emerging promising practices in health services delivery for people with disabilities that incorporate:
- Community-based interventions, services, and supports. Interventions include any strategy, practice, program, policy, or tools that, implemented as intended, contribute to improvements in outcomes for individuals with disabilities;
- Historically non-reimbursed community-based services or products (e.g., assistive technology, environmental controls (such as air conditioners), employment supports, fitness club memberships, non-medical transportation, cell phones, and financial planning services). Conducting at least one rigorous research study to test the effectiveness of innovative models incorporating community-based interventions to determine the extent to which they are associate with positive health outcomes, as well as community participation and community living outcomes for people with disabilities;
- Consulting with relevant stakeholders, including: NIDILRR grantees, people with disabilities and their representatives (including culturally diverse populations of people with disabilities and those who have with disabilities and those with disabilities who have historically been marginalized or disenfranchised) disability organization (including centers for independent living), state and federal agencies (especially CMS’ Medicaid Coordination Office (MMCO) and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI)), service providers, health plans, manufacture, and other interested parties to maximize the relevance and usability of the research products to be developed under this priority;
- Focusing its research on a specific stage of research and clearly specifying the stage in its application. Ifthe DRRP is to conduct research that can be categorized under more than one stage, including research that progresses from stage to another, those stages must be clearly specified. These stages: explorations and discovery, intervention development, intervention efficacy, and scale-up evaluation, are defined in this notices;
- Facilitating stakeholder use of and benefit from the knowledge that results from the DRRP’s research activities. The DRRP must coordinate with NIDILRR’s Center on Knowledge Translation for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (KTDRR) when disseminating and promoting the use of the knowledge that is generated by its research.
Funding Information
The maximum funding amount will be $500,000.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants from States; public or private agencies, including for profit agencies; public or private organizations, including for profit organizations; IHEs; and Indian tribes and tribal organizations are eligible to apply.
