The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is soliciting proposals for Education Program on Translational Devices to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation’s biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs.
Focus Areas
To accomplish the stated goal, this FOA invites research education grant applications with a primary focus on:

Courses for Skills Development: The short course should provide participants with a sufficient overview of the medical device development, translation, and commercialization processes to
- understand the steps required for successful medical device development, translation, and commercialization,
- anticipate and overcome common challenges in the processes, and
- identify and interact effectively with collaborators who have expertise in various aspects of device development, translation, and/or commercialization. The short course should target senior post-doctoral fellows, independent academic researchers, clinician scientists, and small business entrepreneurs interested in pursuing medical device development, translation, and/or commercialization efforts.
Funding Information
- The issuing IC and partner components intend to commit approximately $250,000, to fund 1 award in FY 2023.
- Direct costs of up to $250,000 per year may be requested.
- The maximum project period is 5 years. The first 6 months may be devoted to course/curriculum development with 5 annual meetings held thereafter.
