Expression of Interests: Women’s Resilience to Disasters (Vanuatu)

Call for Proposals: Framework to assess Readiness for Resilient and Inclusive Recovery Project

Deadline: 14-Sep-22

UN Women is seeking applications for its grants to render women’s and girls’ lives and livelihoods disaster-resilient, contributing to sustainable and secure communities.

UN Women is in the process of identifying potential responsible parties for the implementation of the “Women’s resilience to disasters programme” in Vanuatu. UN Women is seeking to partner with a civil society organization to implement national priorities, which were identified through consultative processes.

The Women’s Resilience to Disasters programme will be implemented at the country level (Fiji, Vanuatu, Kiribati) as well as the regional level, and it builds upon and leverage existing interventions. The programme will help shift the narrative away from women and girls as vulnerable victims, and instead foster women’s participation and leadership in climate action.

Aims

The aim of the programme is to render women’s and girls’ lives and livelihoods disaster-resilient, contributing to sustainable and secure communities.

Threats such as COVID-19 are further exacerbating the inequalities and hardships faced by women and girls including those with disabilities.  Women and girls face greater risk and exposure to disasters, yet women remain largely ignored and their capacities unleveraged in conventional resilience building processes. As a result, women are generally absent in the development of resilience strategies and decision-making processes for prevention, preparedness, and recovery. Women’s Resilience to Disasters (WRD) programme proposes a comprehensive package for building women’s resilience to disasters, climate change and threats (including COVID-19).
