Under the framework of the agreement signed between the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), on behalf of the State of São Paulo, Brazil and the Centro parael Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI), the parties agree to promote and facilitate bilateral research and innovation projects between Entities from the State of São Paulo, the Federative Republic of Brazil and from Spain.
Research and Development Projects should demonstrate the technological and mutually beneficial contribution of the participants from both States as well as address specific market needs or challenges and demonstrate high industrial relevance and commercial potential.
Common Requirements
- The products/processes to be developed must be highly innovative and with significant commercial potential.
- The partners in Spain and in São Paulo, Brazil, must agree in advance on an IP rights agreement and on a commercialization strategy for the product or process.
- The partners in Spain and in São Paulo, Brazil, must be capable of implementing the project and funding their respective share.
- The project should demonstrate the scientific and technological contribution of the participants from both countries.
- The project should have an appropriate balance between the participants and the importance for both partners (minimum percentage of the budget per country: 30%).
Eligibility Criteria
- The research proposals must be jointly prepared and submitted by a company in Spain and a small business (less than 250 employees) in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.
- Spain: CDTI requires that the proposal must be submitted by a company in Spain in association with a small business in São Paulo, Brazil.
- Optionally, the company can have a collaboration with other research organizations such as universities and technology centers, through a subcontracting scheme.
- São Paulo, Brazil: FAPESP requires that the proposal be submitted by a Researcher working in a small business (less than 250 employees) in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, in association with a company (of any size) in Spain.
- It is acceptable for FAPESP that the research project presented by the small business in the state of São Paulo includes collaboration with researchers in universities or research institutes in the state of São Paulo, subject to the norms of FAPESP’s PIPE Program.
- Proposals submitted to FAPESP must follow the rules of FAPESP’s Program for Innovative Research in Small Businesses (PIPE) as mentioned on website.
