The FCDO invites bids for Georgian non-profit organisations to support the effective delivery of the Georgian municipal elections in October 2025.
The British Embassy in Tbilisi has a goal of supporting the delivery of Georgian elections that are held to the highest possible standards, in which all sections of the Georgian population are able to express their opinions.
What the fund will achieve?
- Voting rates in Georgian elections are traditionally low, especially amongst young people, ethnic minority groups and women, particularly in rural areas. It can also be challenging to access accurate information regarding different political parties to enable people to make an informed choice about which party best represents their interests, especially for ethnic minority groups who speak little Georgian.
- National elections took place last year in Georgia which were monitored by the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organisation for Security & Cooperation in Europe (OSCE ODIHR). Their report identified a number of recommendations for improvements ahead of this year’s planned municipal elections.
- An effective international and domestic observation mission will be critical to assessing whether these recommendations have been met. The UK supports the deployment of an OSCE international monitoring mission to the 2025 municipal elections, but they also recognise the value of domestic election observation.
- This programme is designed to deliver the following policy objectives:
- all sections of the Georgian population are equipped to make informed choices on which political party best represents their interests through voter information campaigns
- Georgian voters, including under-represented groups are inspired to participate in municipal elections through voter information campaigns
- effective international and local election observation takes place, with sufficient international and domestic observers to establish conclusively whether the elections have been conducted to the highest possible standards
- credible and effective post-election reporting provides enough information to British Embassy Tbilisi on the extent to which the elections have been delivered to the highest standards
Funding Information
- Organisations are invited to bid for grants of up to £100,000 for projects to support this objective.
Duration
- The funding is available for the period between May 2025 until the end of December 2025, including time for completing activities and reporting.
Eligibility Criteria
- Bidders must have right to operate in the country of Georgia and should be a non-commercial organisation.
- Funding cannot be used for any kind of political messaging including promotion of any political party or individual and/or criticism of a political party or individual.
