The First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) is offering Arts Vitality Micro-Grant to enable artists, collectives and organizations to respond to unexpected circumstances and changes in the arts and culture sector.
The Arts Vitality Micro-Grant allows artists, collectives and organizations to respond to new approaches, reduces barriers to opportunities and advances professional development and knowledge. Funding through this grant can be used to support adapting an existing work or professional practice, developing alternative production/presentation/distribution strategies, gaining new skills, or exploring new technologies and digital opportunities.
The Arts Vitality Micro-Grant program is meant to assist Indigenous artists, collectives and organizations to:
- respond to unforeseen opportunities
- respond to extenuating or unexpected circumstances
- respond to changes in the arts and culture sector
- explore new technologies
- develop alternate production/presentation/distribution strategies
- acquire new skills, and/or develop new relationships relevant to your project/practice
- reduce barriers and create access to artistic opportunities
- increase their skills and knowledge
- Support activities projected to occur in the immediate future; ideally within (3) months
Definitions for the purposes of this grant:
- Organizations are Indigenous led Not for Profit Societies or other entities that can provide Audited Financial Statements and have at least two people with signing authority.
- Collectives are a group of 3 or more Indigenous artists who come together with a shared vision and mandate. A collective has a name and can either have a group bank account or have one member accept funds on behalf of the group.
Funding Information
- Awards of up to $3000 are available to Individuals or Collectives;
- Awards of up to $5000 are available to Organizations.
Eligibility Criteria
For the purposes of this program, the term “Indigenous” refers to a person of Indigenous descent or heritage, and includes First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples.
- Indigenous artists or arts collectives who demonstrate a commitment to their artistic practice in any artistic discipline including visual, music, dance, theatre, film, literary, and others. This grant includes traditionally based and/or contemporary/experimental art forms.
- Applicants will have completed basic training in their field, demonstrated their commitment to their art form, and be working to develop their activities to a highly accomplished skill level;
- Indigenous artists or members of collectives must be 19 years of age or older, working in any artistic discipline, and have been a resident of British Columbia for at least twelve months at the time of application. If requested, proof of residency can include a valid B.C. driver’s license;
- At least 51% of the members of a collective must be Indigenous.
- Indigenous organizations, societies, First Nations communities and arts collectives that work across all art forms including visual, music, dance, and story.
- Applications are accepted from registered not-for-profit First Nations arts or culture organizations in good standing and First Nations based in B.C.;
- For organizations and societies to apply, at least 51% of directors must be Indigenous;
- Applicants should be working to develop the activities of emerging artists to a highly accomplished skill level standard or supporting the practice of art forms in any discipline.
