The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service is seeking assistance in the protection and management of significant cultural resources on public lands through its Heritage Program.
The USDA Forest Service Heritage Program is seeking new ways to collaborate to achieve its mission and goals. By recognizing the importance or partner collaboration and the rich skillset brought forth, these initiatives aim to assist the agency in preserving the nations rich heritage, empowering communities, and connecting the public with the Nation’s past to help guide its future.
This initiative aims to foster co-stewardship between USDA Forest Service, and historic preservation focused partners to assist the agency to manage, preserve and share the history for public enjoyment and professional use. The agency works with other land management agencies, local communities, interested publics, and Tribes to ensure agency actions address cultural sensitivities and priorities.
Objectives
- This outreach of interest (OOI) functions as an outreach mechanism to cultivate relationships and connect with potential partners. This OOI is intended to solicit responses to explore future projects meeting the needs and interests of potential partners through partnership agreements within legislative authority with USDA Forest Service.
- Objectives for potential projects include:
- Assistance with identification efforts of unknown or undocumented heritage resources located on public lands administered by the USDA Forest Service.
- Assistance with the preparation and completion of documents associated with the evaluation of an identified resource’s eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
- Assistance in the development of data recovery plans, mitigation plans, or stabilization efforts for known sites which are experiencing a clear or imminent threat or adverse effect.
- Assistance in the restoration of heritage resources while meeting Secretary of the Interior Standards for Restoration and Rehabilitation.
Duration
- Awards under this announcement are typically 1 to 5 years in length. Projects of greater complexity may be awarded for a longer period, not to exceed 5 years.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible responders include for profit; non-profits; institutions of higher education; federal, state, local, and Native American tribal governments; organizations and special purpose districts (public utility districts, fire districts, conservation districts, school districts, and ports.)
