Funding is available for young Māori artists or young artists to start a career in the arts.
Toi Tipu Toi Rea was established in 2013 to respond to feedback from the Nga Toi Māori sector, that is, to support Ringatoi Autaia Māori and artists to carry out an art project.
Benefit: Your project or activities must directly benefit New Zealand arts, artists or practitioners.
Types of Funding
There are three types of funding: Ngā toi Māori, Pacific arts and General arts. There are additional eligibility requirements for Ngā toi Māori and Pacific arts funding types. You may be eligible for more than one type of funding, but you can only choose one for your application.

Ngā toi Māori funding

To apply for Ngā toi Māori funding:
- You must be Māori, or your project must be managed or directed by Māori
- Organisations, groups or collectives must be Māori-led. If an organisation is applying for funding on behalf of an individual, that person must also be Māori.

Pacific arts funding

To apply for Pacific arts funding:
- Your activities must align to their Pacific Arts Strategy 2018-2023
- Kaupapa Pasifika will be evident in the practice of your activities
- The activities will deliver outcomes to Pacific arts and artists

General arts funding
- The general eligibility criteria apply. Applications are assessed by artists and practitioners with experience in the relevant artform.
What can be funded?

Funding for Māori artisans or budding artists to start an art project.
- Skills development (shelter, work experience, internships, workshops, seminars)
- The research, creation or development of the arts
- Articles, discussions, seminars, and conferences
- Visualization, visualization and presentation of activities
- Publication (lists, articles, journals, books and reviews)
The only costs that can be claimed are those incurred from the start to the end of the termination. They do not cover the cost of space or shipping.
Funding Information
- Toi Tipu Toi Lea awards $5,000-$10,000.

Project Timing: Your application must:
- To start after 17 November 2022
- To be completed by 31 December 2023.
Eligibility Criteria

To apply for help from the Māori Outreach Fund of Toi Tipu Toi Rea and:
- Māori. Also,
- A New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand
- Remember that
- Don't get a ticket from one of the previous selections from the Te Tahua Ringatoi Autaia Māori of Toi Tipu Toi Rea.

You must have a track record of experience and success — this means you must have:
- Recognition from peers or experts.
- Achieved a degree of critical or sales success.
- Specialised training or practical experience.
