The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has launched Games Legacy Grant Program to support athletes, performers, artists, teams, coaches or instructors.
Purpose
- As a result of hosting the 1985 Alberta Summer Games, 1992 Alberta Winter Games, 2003 Alberta Senior Games and 2004 Arctic Winter Games, a Games Legacy grant was created with surplus monies from these events.
- To support athletes, performers, artists, teams, coaches or instructors in Wood Buffalo to:
- develop their skills through training, programs or activities in amateur sport, arts and/or culture;
- participate in provincial, national or international level competitions, including the North American Indigenous Games;
- to promote and develop future local talent within the community; and/or
- support residents to achieve their maximum potential.
Funding Streams
The Games Legacy Grant offers two funding streams:
- Developmental Activities: development of skills through training, programs or activities in amateur sport, arts and/or culture; and
- Travel and Accommodation: participation in provincial, national or international level competitions, including the North American Indigenous Games.
Funding Information
- Athletes, performers, artists, coaches or instructors may be granted a maximum of $1,500
- Teams, nonprofit organizations, or groups may be granted a maximum of $3,000
Eligibility Criteria
- Developmental Activities: development of skills through training, programs or activities in amateur sport, arts and/or culture.
- The Applicant must:
- reside within the Regional Boundary for a minimum of one year;
- be a team or group with all members residing within the Regional Boundary;
- be a registered non-profit organization or society that has operated within the Regional Boundary for at least one year prior to applying;
- apply for competitions, programs, or activities that have happened or are happening between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2022; and
- submit only one application and receive only one Games Legacy Grant per Call for Applications;
- be in compliance with past reporting requirements (if previously received a Games Legacy Grant).
- Travel and Accommodation: participation in provincial, national or international level competitions, including the North American Indigenous Games.
