The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme is accepting proposals to support environmental projects for capacity development.
These projects must be carried out within the environmental objectives that simultaneously support the goals of local empowerment and poverty reduction.
Small Grants Programme – Global Environment Facility gives priority to the poor and vulnerable communities, as well as groups such as women, youth and indigenous populations. As such, the program proactively seeks to increase the capacity of these communities and groups and civil society organizations that work with them to develop proposals, as well as to implement the projects successfully and in a sustainable manner.
The goal of grants for capacity development is to “promote and strengthen local communities and civil society capacity to address global environmental challenges.” These grants should strengthen capacities for:
- Engage in consultative processes
- The application of knowledge management to ensure an adequate flow of information
- Implementation of the guidelines of the agreements (in particular the role of civil society organizations to add or complete government action)
- Monitoring and evaluation of environmental impact and trends (especially at the local level and community projects and on a large scale as the national level in cooperation with the national non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and government).
Funding Information
- The maximum is $ 50,000 only to those proposals that are comprehensive in terms of coverage (for example, at the national level), subject (ie, all the focus areas) or sectors (ie all types of civil society organizations, particularly women, indigenous people, and young people).
- This can be done through a workshop and a comprehensive one, or if necessary a series of complementary workshops matter.
- For workshops which are one-time and very specific in terms of area (ie a specific area), subject (biodiversity only, for example), and the sector (ie only civil society organizations working with them), indigenous people, are expected to be allocated small amounts of funding.

Eligibility Criteria
- Be of experience and credibility (transparency, democracy, the degree of acceptance from the local community and to have previous experience in this area).

- To adopt the coordination with other local partners (popular committees and non-governmental organizations and municipalities, private sector and youth clubs, women’s associations etc …).
- Priority is given for the small local associations
- On the big associations (annual budget exceeding $ 300,000) or those and is a branch of the international organization, that operates through partners (associations) local.
