Applications are now open for the Guiding Local Opportunities for Wellbeing (GLOWS) Large and Medium Research Grants Program.
The aims of GLOWS Large and Medium Research Grants are:
- to ensure that the research commissioned is of high impact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- that it represents value for money
- that it is led and owned by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- that it has direct benefit to Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples and communities.
Research funded through these grants must address the overall goal of the program, being to increase health equity and address disparities that continue to drive the transmission of HIV/viral hepatitis within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and work towards elimination.
Funding Information
- Large Research Grants
- The GLOWS Large Grant value is up to $800,000 the amount awarded will be assessed against criteria including, but not limited to, alignment with the GLOWS program objective.
- The number of GLOWS Large Grants available may vary.
- The maximum project duration period is up to 2 years and funds are paid directly to the lead organisation.
- Medium Research Grants
- The GLOWS Medium Grant value is up to $300,000 the amount awarded will be assessed against criteria including, but not limited to, alignment with the GLOWS program objective.
- The number of GLOWS Medium Grants available may vary.
- The maximum project duration period is up to two years and funds are paid directly to the lead organisation.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible to apply, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person must be leading the research. A non-Indigenous person can be the project lead, but not the chief investigator.
- An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation or a non-Indigenous organisation partnering with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation are eligible to apply.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisations who wish to apply and must have an Incorporation Number and be governed by a board with majority Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members (above 51%), who have been elected by the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
- Institutions or organisations applying must have an Australian Business Number (ABN). The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or Indigenous Business Number (IBN), including an account with an Australian financial institution.
- The institution or organisation must have no outstanding reports, acquittals or serious breaches relating to any Australian Government funding (a serious breach might be one that has resulted in termination of a grant agreement).
- The institution or organisation must not be bankrupt or subject to insolvency proceedings.
- The institution or organisation must have the available resources and ability to undertake a research project in accordance with the GLOWS Large Grant and Medium Grant Terms and Conditions of the Contract.
- The grant must not be more than 33% of the organisation’s revenue.
- Applicants also must maintain at all times, and provide evidence of:
- Certificates of Currency for Public Liability insurance to a minimum $10 million in respect of any claim or series of related claims
- Professional Indemnity insurance to a minimum $10 million in respect of any claim or series of related claims, and
- Worker’s Compensation insurance for all employees and sub-contractors involved in delivery of the services.
Ineligible
- Lowitja Institute will not accept applications from the following:
- If your organisation is already in receipt of funding under the GLOWS Grant Program 2024–26.
- Individuals and consultants.
- For-profit organisations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses.
- Federal and state government agencies and bodies.
- Public schools.
- Unincorporated Aboriginal organisations or groups.
- Organisations that have not met project requirements, including acquittal and reporting for grant funding received in the previous two years, and auspice organisations.
