Deadline: 28-Aug-20
The Government of Canada has announced a call for proposals for the Investments in Training Equipment Stream aims to increase union investment in training equipment and materials that meet industry standards or investments in new technology.
Objectives
Government of Canada will fund projects that demonstrate a need for trades training equipment and/or materials to meet industry standards or investments in new technology for Red Seal trades.
Here are some examples of equipment and/or materials that you can buy:
- simulators (for example a tower crane, backhoe)
- advanced trade-based technology
- geothermal training systems
- milling/bevelling guns
- electric hoists
- sheet metal for use in training activities (for example, welding)
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we will prioritize projects that support the provision of online and/or virtual training for the Red Seal trades. Projects that meet this objective could be assessed and funded before other projects.
Here are some examples of online or virtual training resources:
- E-learning platforms, including online forums, interactive platforms and virtual mobile applications
- Video and audio recording equipment to develop online or virtual training content
- Virtual reality technologies, such as mixed reality or virtual headsets
- Technologies for scanning and rendering spaces
- Web-based simulations technology

- target training for Red Seal trades
- run for 36 months
- request no more than $10,000,000 per project

- 30% cash contribution is acceptable if you can demonstrate that you face any of these challenges:

- an organization managing training funds for Red Seal trades workers (for example, a joint training fund set up by a union and an employer)
Note that organizations in the province of Québec cannot apply for this funding. The Government of Canada has partnered with the Government of Québec (en français seulement). Together they have implemented a program that accounts for the unique features of Québec’s apprenticeship system.
