The Government of Canada is currently accepting proposals from organizations for its Union Training and Innovation Program (UTIP) for projects under the Innovation in Apprenticeship Stream to strengthen training in the trades to better support a skilled, inclusive, certified and productive trades workforce.
Objectives
- Support innovation and enhanced partnerships to address long-standing and complex challenges that limit apprenticeship outcomes
- Improve the participation and success of key groups in trades training and careers (e.g., women, Indigenous people, newcomers, persons with disabilities).
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible recipients for the Innovation in Apprenticeship Stream are:
- Unions representing workers in Red Seal trades
- Not-for-profit organizations
- For-profit organizations (for-profit organizations may be eligible for funding provided that the nature and intent of the activity is non-commercial, not intended to generate profit, and supports program priorities and objectives)
- Municipal governments
- Indigenous organizations (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities)
- Provincial and territorial governments, institutions, agencies and Crown Corporations
- The CFP is open to all unions representing workers in the Red Seal trades, including those that do not provide training recognized by provinces and territories as apprenticeship technical training, and those that do not operate training facilities
- Eligible projects could address challenges such as, but not limited to:
- Improving perceptions of the trades;
- Addressing inflexibility of apprenticeship technical training delivery;
- Addressing barriers to employer participation;
- Improving completion rates;
- Improving remote training delivery; or
- Addressing barriers to participation and success in the trades faced by women, Indigenous people, newcomers, and persons with disabilities.
- Priority will be given to projects that:
- Specifically target women and/or Indigenous people; or
- Involve broad-based partnerships (e.g., between sectors, regions, among employers, community/non-profit groups, training providers, provinces and territories, etc.).
