Grant Call to strengthen the Protection of Women and Girls in Chad

The Women for Peace and Humanitarian Action Fund (WPHF) launched its first call for proposals in Chad to support civil society organizations (CSOs) working to create an environment favorable to the women, peace, security (FPS), and to strengthen the protection of women and girls, as well as to support local women’s and young women’s organizations through institutional funding.

Objectives and Purpose 

• The general objective of this call for proposals is to provide grants to local organizations of civil society in Chad focused on i) a favorable environment for the WPS agenda (Impact 1 of WPHF), or iii) the protection of women and girls (Impact 5 of the WPHF), in contexts of conflict and humanitarian issues with organizations defending the rights of women and young people women. The call for proposals contributes to the general objective of the WPHF to contribute to societies peaceful and egalitarian between the sexes.
• Initiatives should aim to reach women and girls who experience multiple forms and cross-discrimination/violations, such as those excluded due to geography, ethnicity, disability, age, migration status, social status and/or matrimonial among others, and which align with the 2030 Agenda and the principle of leaving no one behind side.

Funding Streams

• Institutional funding: (USD $2,500 – $30,000) 
  • The objective is to strengthen the capacity institutional structure of defense organizations women’s rights and led organizations by women working on issues gender in peace and security contexts and in humanitarian contexts, in order to ensure that they are able to maintain themselves and to improve their impact. Potential candidates will have to demonstrate how the current context affects their institutional capacities and financial and how financing would support as an organization. This section will finance a limited range of activities aimed at support the development or strengthening institutional capacities of a CSO. The objective of this funding stream is not to fund programmatic activities. The organizations applying for funding institutional must have a mandate aligned with the objectives of the call for proposals.
• Programmatic financing: Stream 2 (USD $30,000 – $200,000) 
  • This funding stream will finance projects that specifically aim to finance activities programs aligned with the domain(s) following impact(s):
    • Impact 1 of the WPHF (Environment favorable to the WPS agenda): Strengthening the role of civil society organizations in advocacy and empowerment of FPS commitments.
    • Impact 5 of the WPHF (Protection of women and girls): Human rights, safety, women’s safety and mental health and girls are improved.

Duration

• All civil society organizations can apply for grants of a duration maximum of 2 years (24 months).

Location

• The WPHF will finance eligible projects in Chad with a geographic concentration in: provinces of Lake, Western Logone, Oriental Logone, Mandoul, Wadi Fira, Ouaddai and Sila.
• Multi-country projects or projects outside the geographic area will not be accepted.

Eligibility Criteria

• National, regional and/or local organizations led by women or young women, organizations defending women’s rights, youth rights, organizations feminists and/or civil society organizations that have demonstrated their work with women, young women and girls can apply. Organizations led by women facing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination are encouraged to ask their application, in particular those with a displacement status (displaced, returned), people living with disabilities, ethnic minorities (nomadic peoples, etc.)
• Women’s rights or feminist organization: The official mission or vision statement of the organization must reflect its commitment to combating multiple or intersecting forms of discrimination and to advance gender equality and women’s rights. The organization must work to the transformation of underlying factors/systems/structures, including patriarchy and dynamic of power between the sexes, and work on their transformation.
• Women-led organization: must be led by a woman as director/head organization.
• Youth-focused organization: To be considered “youth-focused,” the mission and vision fundamentals of the organization must be focused on supporting social, economic and policy of young women and young men and on the fight against multiple or intersecting forms of discrimination against young women and men. WPHF will pay special attention to youth-focused organizations that support young women, advance gender equality and peacebuilding.
• Young Women-Led Organization: Must be led by a young woman aged 18-29 who acts as director/organization manager.

Ineligible

• The following entities are not eligible to apply for a WPHF grant:
  • International non-governmental organizations;
  • Government agencies or institutions;
  • United Nations agencies or United Nations country offices;
  • Individuals
  • Private sector entities
  • Universities and educational establishments
