Applicants are now invited to submit applications for the Grant for International Collaborative Projects with Heritage Institutes.
The Grant for International Collaborative Projects with Heritage Institutes is intended for one or more Dutch cultural heritage institutions that collaborate with foreign cultural heritage institutions in research projects in fields covered by both of their collections. The grant may also be requested for the development phase of the project, for example to pay for the travel and accommodation expenses incurred by researchers and curators, and towards the costs of presenting the study results in the Netherlands.
The objective is to promote new insights, research and international collaborations in the field of cultural heritage whose importance will draw international attention and which will result in a presentation.
Funding Information
The amount of a Grant for International Collaborative Projects with Heritage Institutes will be determined per application.
Conditions
In addition to the General Terms and Conditions, a Grant for International Collaborative Projects with Heritage Institutes is subject to the following conditions:
- Grant applications may be submitted by Dutch institutions managing cultural heritage of national significance.
- In order to be eligible, such a Dutch institution must have entered into a partnership with similar cultural heritage institutions abroad.
- The proposed research project must be shown off by both the Dutch institution and its international partner/s.
- The applicant will make a significant financial contribution to the acquisition of the object itself. The grant application is more likely to be successful if the applicant has raised some funds itself by means of a crowd-funding campaign, e.g. through nl.
- The foreign partner’s or partners’ share of the project costs must be in acceptable proportion to the grant awarded by the Mondriaan Fund.
Assessment Criteria
The advisory committee will assess the cultural and historical significance of the subject and the cultural heritage objects to be exhibited on the basis of:
- A project plan explaining why the institution wishes to collaborate with the other party/parties and what the study is all about;
- A presentation plan explaining in what way the organisation seeks to attract and retain the right audience in an inspiring manner;
- A budget covering all expenses, including quotations and a statement confirming that the study cannot be funded in any other way;
- Pledges by the international organisations (and, where applicable, other Dutch organisations) that will take part in the study.
The advisory committee will assess applications for the following three interrelated criteria:
- The significance and/or innovative quality of the study, and the quality of the study design. Is the proposed plan convincingly innovative, does it set a convincing example or it is otherwise special? Does the project set itself apart from other cultural heritage objects on display in the Netherlands in terms of content, design and execution? Does the project have a clear profile which complements other cultural heritage projects currently being undertaken in the Netherlands?
- The significance of the institutions involved. How will the international partnership create added value for the project? How will the collaboration increase the Dutch people’s knowledge of the subject? Is the collaboration between the institutions involved in the partnership likely to result in a successful project which will be of outstanding cultural and historical quality? How does the applicant intend to reach the right audience and strengthen the relationship between the cultural heritage object and the public at large?
- The quality of the presentation plan, particularly with regard to the (hopefully inspiring) manner in which the institution seeks to attract and retain the right audience. Will the project help get the public more interested in visual arts or cultural heritage? Can the presentation of the study results be expected to bridge the gap between the public and cultural heritage, for instance because it addresses a topical issue? Do the project and its methodology/methodologies cater to the selected target group/s?
