The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), announces the acceptance of applications under the Rural Community Development Initiative (RCDI) program for fiscal year (FY) 2022. These grants will be made to qualified intermediary organizations that will provide financial and technical assistance to recipients to develop their capacity and ability to undertake projects related to housing, community facilities, or community and economic development that will support the community.
Priorities
The Agency encourages applicants to consider projects that will advance the following key priorities:
- Assisting rural communities recover economically from the impacts of the COVID–19 pandemic, particularly disadvantaged communities.
- Ensuring all rural residents have equitable access to RD programs and benefits from RD funded projects;
- Reducing climate pollution and increasing resilience to the impacts of climate change through economic support to rural communities.

- The respective minimum and maximum grant amounts per intermediary are $50,000 and $250,000,
Eligibility Information
- Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c) (3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities
- Independent school districts
- Nonprofits having a 501(c) (3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Small businesses
- Special district governments
- City or township governments
- Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
- Native American tribal organizations (other than federally recognized tribal governments)
- Private institutions of higher education
- State governments
- For profit organizations other than small businesses
- County governments
- Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
