The Centers for Disease Control is pleased to announce the Comprehensive High Impact Community Based HIV Prevention, Testing and Treatment Initiation for Sustained Epidemic Control in Lesotho under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to to support implementation of a comprehensive public health response to new HIV infections for sustained epidemic control in Lesotho.
The program will engage in comprehensive and evidence-based community HIV prevention, testing and treatment initiation for the general population and other at-risk groups such as youth, men, migrant, and factory workers, as well as building capacity of local organizations, civil society organizations and community systems in implementing data-driven programming.
The project will use mapping of hot spots as informed by facility and community-based surveillance, recency, and other HIV programmatic and epidemiological data; combined with same-day onsite anti-retroviral treatment (ART) initiation for identified persons living with HIV (PLHIV), and timely pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) initiation and/or linkages to voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for eligible HIV-negative clients; as well as PEP provision for survivors of gender based violence.
The project will also offer comprehensive community HIV prevention services targeting adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and their sexual partners with risk communication, HIV testing, sexual and reproductive health services, and linkages to socio-economic strengthening programs under the DREAMS initiative.
The purpose of this NOFO is to support the government of Lesotho to reach and sustain HIV epidemic control by expanding access to the hard-to-find PLHIV in communities and improving access to high impact community-based HIV prevention, treatment, and support services. The project will utilize real-time program and survey data to map clusters of new HIV infections by geography and population, and deliver high impact evidence-based HIV prevention, testing and treatment services to ensure Lesotho ends HIV/AIDS by 2030.
