Grants of up to TZS million 20 available under Tanzania Field Fund

Applications are now open for the Tanzania Field Fund. For the year 2021, the priority of grant funding will be projected directly related to planting trees in the arid regions and projects related to the development of the sub-sector beekeeping.

Primary and secondary schools from 18 districts of 8 arid regions will be considered for funding for the establishment of tree nurseries and participation in the planting of trees in their areas. Successful schools are expected to provide subsidies enthusiasm for tree planting in neighboring schools and villages.

Priority Areas

• The Tanzania Forestry Fund will provide grants in three priority areas such asas follows:
  • Conservation, management and development of forest resources. Priority in delivery Grants for 2021 are projects related to:
    • Establishment of tree nurseries in schools and tree planting in primary schools and secondary and surrounding villages. Grant applicants in this area are schools primary and secondary and grants will be provided to primary and secondary schools from 18 districts of 8 arid regions which are Dodoma (Districts Dodoma and Chamwino) ; Singida (Ikungi and Singida Districts) ; Shinyanga(Shinyanga and Kishapu Districts) ; Simiyu (Bariadi and Busega Districts) ;Manyara (Babati and Hanang Districts) ; Arusha (Arumeru District,Monduli and Longido), Kilimanjaro (plains of District of Rombo and Same) and Kagera (District Biharamulo, Karagwe and Ngara) .
    • Establishment of small plantations (woodlots). Grants will be distributed to all regions of mainland Tanzania except Iringa, Mbeya,Njombe, Pwani and Dar es Salaam. The grant criteria will betree planting efforts demonstrated by the grant applicant and the presence of a farm legally owned by a large grant applicant not less than 10 acres.
  • Improving the livelihoods of communities living along forest reserves, in particular beekeeping-related projects aimed at forest conservation. Places that The grants considered are:
    • Improving the conservation of natural forests through beekeeping in Lindi Regions, Mbeya, Songwe, Rukwa, Tabora, Shinyanga, Kigoma and Katavi. They are targeted here are beekeeping groups that will also be trained making better bee hives. Women and youth groups will be given priority.
    • Establishment of collection centers for honey and other bee products inregions of Katavi, Rukwa, Geita, Tabora, Kigoma, Singida, Lindi, Mbeya, andSongwe . The beneficiaries here are Government Institutions including TFS and Councils of Districts.
  • Forest and Beekeeping Research aimed at improving conservation, management, development and Sustainable use of forest and beekeeping resources and adding value to crops forests and bees will be considered subsidized. Research projects funded should be based on the National Strategic Plan for Forest Research ( National Forest Research Master Plan) and the National Comprehensive Livestock Research Plan Bees ( National Beekeeping Research Master Plan).

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Tanzania Forestry Fund are set out of the Forest Act Chapter No. 323 as follows:

• Facilitate community mobilization through education and training on the importance of conservation, development and sustainable use of forest resources;
• Facilitate and fund forest conservation, development and management through subsidies for groups and other stakeholders involved in the conservation, management and development of resources forests;
• To promote, develop and fund research with a view to improving conservation, development and forest resource management;
• To support and enable Tanzania to benefit from National and International programs and assistance available for the conservation and protection of biodiversity and the development of forest resources;
• Assist and enable groups and individuals to participate in discussions and debates dealing with forests and preparing environmental assessments as outlined in section18 of the Forest Act Chapter No. 323;
• Support and enable groups and individuals to comply with the Forest Act, regulations and relevant guidelines; and
• Financing other activities related to the Fund’s responsibilities and activities relating to the purposes of the Forest Act Chapter No. 323.

Funding Information

The Tanzania Forestry Fund provides three types of grants which are as follows:

• Subsidies: amount not exceeding five million Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) (5).
• Medium Grant: amount in excess of TZS five (5) million but not exceeding TZS million 20. This grant shall be made to the stakeholders mentioned in item no. 3 except school primary and secondary.
• Major Grant: amount in excess of TZS 20 million but not exceeding TZS million 50. This grant shall be given to the stakeholders mentioned in item no. 3 except school primary and secondary

Criteria

Documentation of projects that will be considered to be funded by the Tanzania Forestry Fund should meet the following criteria. The project document should indicate / confirm that:

• project implementation will contribute to conservation, management and / or development of forest resources;
• the project provides direct or indirect benefits to created;
• the activities to be carried out should be clearly identified and indicate the presence of accountability;
• there is creativity and stakeholder engagement;
• the results of project implementation will contribute to the improvement of conservation and forest resource management;
• the applicant’s ability to implement and manage project activities to achieve intended goals;
• there is a continuation of the project activities that will be implemented after the limit of grant;
• Applicants for medium and large grants will contribute 20% (cash or state and property) of the total amount of all funds requested from the Forest Fund Tanzania
• there are project implementers with expertise in the type of project for which the grant is applied with the aim of simplifying its implementation;(x) the ownership of the area to be used for project activities must be identified;
• documents for primary and secondary school projects must be required obtain the consent of the Director of the relevant Council; and
• The projects will be implemented in the Mainland Regions and will focus on the regions of priority
