As part of the Global Plastics Innovation Programme implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with funding from the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), innovative solutions are being explored to be piloted to reduce plastic waste generation, foster the development of sustainable alternatives, and enhance circular economy practices to mitigate the impacts of plastic pollution on both the planet and people.
Scope of Work
- The successful organization will design and pilot an innovation solution to reduce plastic waste generation. The successful organization will work with the UNDP on day-to-day basis. The SGP National Coordinator shall oversee the implementation and report to the Team Leader of People-centred Sustainable Development and Resilience (PCSD&R) Portfolio with overall guidance of the Deputy Resident Representative for UNDP.
- Specifically, the following are required services:
- Development and implementation of innovative solutions to reduce plastic pollution
- Design and pilot at least one innovative solution to reduce plastic pollution.
- Stakeholder engagement and awareness raising
- Participate in events to share the results and lessons learned with stakeholders.
- Maintain ongoing communication with stakeholders to sustain momentum and encourage continued engagement in waste management and environmental stewardship beyond the project scope.
- Knowledge Management, Learning and Networking
- Produce technical and financial reports with supporting documents (project initiation, mid-term and final reports), and summary documents on key activities and results; knowledge products highlighting process-based as well as outcome-based lessons.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Reporting
- The entity will undertake participatory monitoring and evaluation of project activities, based on agreed schedules in the memorandum of agreement. The entity will have an in-built real-time monitoring process as best designed by them and be ready to provide information as requested on an ad hoc basis.
- The entity will maintain regular consultation and contact with UNDP regarding the implementation of the project, provide acceptable project level progress (financial and narrative) reports and prepare a final evaluation report for the period of the agreement.
- Development and implementation of innovative solutions to reduce plastic pollution
Funding Information
- A maximum of USD 40,000 will be allocated to the winning innovation solutions.
Duration
- The project is expected to commence in April 2025 and be completed by the end of December 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following are the required qualifications of the prospective organization:
- The prospective organization should dedicate a team of at least 3 technical experts (one of which should be a team leader) to implementing the required assignment.
- Should be a Non-profit national organization (CSO/CBO/NGO/Foundation/Academia)
- Eligible organization should have specialized expertise/ or appropriate skilled personnel in provision of the task.
- Experience based on evidence in implementing initiatives with similar scope and nature is required.
- Prospective organization should be registered in accordance with the legal requirements of the Government of Sierra Leone.
- Prospective organizations may submit a joint proposal as coalitions. In this case, main applicant must provide support letters from relevant co-applicant specifying their respective role. In case of a joint proposal, the main applicant shall have proven experience in the proposed area of programming for the grant.
