Deadline: 1-Feb-22
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is inviting applications for the Understanding HIV/STD Risk and Enhancing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) Implementation Messaging in a Diverse Community-Based Sample of Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) in a Transformational Era.
The aim is to study PrEP use and other HIV / STD prevention behaviors over time among MSM in three (3) regions of the US, one of which should include the US South. The study should also serve to develop and test (quantitatively and qualitatively) brief PrEP and other HIV / STD prevention messaging to enhance protective behaviors among MSM. All MSM should receive alternating quarterly HIV and STD tests (ie, an HIV test in one quarter, an STD test in the next quarter) and referral to prevention and treatment care, as requested or needed.
Objectives
The study objectives are multifold:
- To assess and better understand use of available HIV primary prevention products (eg, daily oral PrEP, condoms) over time in a diverse community-based sample of MSM across three (3) US cities.
- To assess and better understand HIV and STD infection rates in a transformational era for HIV prevention products among HIV-negative MSM.
- To develop and test more effective HIV / STD prevention messages in an environment of an increasing number of HIV primary prevention products.
- To analyze data and produce rapid reports following each wave of quantitative and qualitative assessment, reporting on key findings, trends, and recommendations for public health messaging and behavioral interventions.
