The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), invite Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to submit project proposals for grants in the areas of climate change, conservation of biodiversity, forest management, international water, chemicals and waste and land degradation.
Initiatives to be Supported by SGP:
- Projects to improve the quality of life and the sustainability of natural and cultural resources, including but not limited to the following:
- Encouraging ecotourism in or around natural reserves.
- Biodiversity conservation projects.
- Projects to stimulate community participation/awareness of cultural and environmental issues with inheritance value.
- Projects to support efforts to preserve endangered plant species.
- Projects to combat land degradation and encourage afforestation and reforestation.
- Integrated management projects of water resources.
- Creative agricultural solutions related to climate, including but not limited to the following:
- Water harvesting.
- Introducing organic farming practices.
- Encouraging responsible agricultural practices in the highland region, where groundwater is overexploited without a clear strategy for preserving it.
- Low-carbon energy solutions, including but not limited to, the following:
- Social marketing campaigns related to saving energy and using environmentally friendly alternatives.
- Reducing the community’s dependence on cutting forests for wood.
- Linking alternative energy sources, such as reducing logging, reducing poverty, creating job opportunities, and others.
- The Small Grants Program will focus on communities that are affected by chemicals as users or konsumers. Therefore, the program stimulates non-governmental organization and/ or community-based organization to submit project proposals that address the following issues related to water basins:
- Strategies and policies for managing hazardous waste and chemicals.
- Finding alternative job opportunities for jobs dealing with hazardous chemicals.
- Industrial facilities with environmental regulations and standards.
Funding Information
The amount of the requested grant does not exceed 50,000 US dollars for the project proposal.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applied organization is a non-governmental organization and/or community-based organization.
- The submitted project proposal falls within one of the program thematic areas mentioned in the call announcement.
- The submitted project proposal is in line with SGP OP7 country program strategy.
- The project impact on community livelihood and the environment is shown in the application form.
- The necessity of obtaining other cash or in-kind contributions from donor institutions or community associations as supplementary or parallel support.
- Networking and cooperation with GEF projects implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) or other programs.
