Western Digital is currently seeking applications for grants to nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) around the world to support programs in STEM education, hunger relief, and the environment.
Types of Programs
- U.S. Community Grants
- Western Digital considers applications from nonprofit organizations and public schools offering programs or services in alignment with the philanthropic focus areas:
- STEM Education: Organizations providing opportunities for underrepresented and/or underserved K-12 youth
- Hunger Relief: Innovative programs focused on alleviating hunger in the local communities
- Environment: Work in environmental preservation and/or conservation, and the public education of such issues

Funding Information
U.S. Community Grants: Proposals are reviewed by Western Digital employee grant committees twice a year. The U.S. community grant awards generally range between $7,500 – $20,000.

- They are currently consider grant requests from the following countries outside of the U.S.:

Eligibility Criteria
- U.S. Community Grants
- To best honor thr commitment to the communities they serve during the COVID-19 pandemic, Western Digital has revised their grant program to an invite only basis. Nonprofit organizations and public schools offering programs aligned with the focus areas will receive an invitation from Western Digital to apply for funding through a competitive application process a week before the grant application opens.
- They offer two application periods each year; organizations seeking funding may apply once in any 12-month period. Community grant awards are limited to one per organization, per year. Organizations receiving three consecutive years of funding will be required to cycle out for one year before applying for additional funding.
- Global Community Grants
- This program offers the opportunity for qualifying organizations to apply for funding from Western Digital via a competitive application process. Priority consideration is given to organizations offering programs/services in proximity to Western Digital offices and facilities.
- WDC requires that non-profit organizations and schools seeking support meet specific criteria to be considered:
- Be a tax-exempt non-profit organization or public school in good standing with the IRS or global equivalent
- Show program capability, sound fiscal policies, responsible management, and evidence of long-range planning and effective use of volunteers
- Have a competent, active board of directors or similar governing body providing sound policies and guidance to the organization and its members
- Produce a budget, financial statements and a plan for funding beyond the period covered by the proposed contribution
- Show a method of evaluating the results of the proposed project
- In addition, They require:
- The charity is not being recommended by a foreign official
- The charity is not owned/operated by a foreign official or close relative
- There are no deals that are contingent (either in fact or in appearance) upon the granting of the charitable aid
- Normal due diligence has been conducted to verify that the charity is legitimate and reputable, and financially stable
- The charity’s mission is consistent with the philanthropic priorities of the Western Digital Corporation (Education, Hunger Relief, Environmental Issues)
- Western Digital reserves the right to make funding and contribution decisions within its sole and absolute discretion and may alter these criteria without notice at any time.

- U.S. Community Grants: Round 2 (June 1 – July 15)
- Global Community Grants: Letters are accepted on a rolling quarterly basis.
