Harm Reduction International supporting Advocacy, Campaign Initiatives

Build to Scale Funding Program (US)

Deadline: 28-May-21

Harm Reduction International has launched a call for proposals to support advocacy, campaign, and/or communications initiatives by NGOs, civil society groups, activists, artists, or community networks in two countries: Malaysia and Sri Lanka; aimed at raising awareness on the human rights and public health fallacies of the COVID-19 response and its impact on marginalised groups, as well as countering the over-expansion of emergency and executive powers.

Supported initiatives can include (while not being limited to) online or offline campaigns, institutional advocacy, experience and knowledge sharing among civil society and with affected communities

COVID-19, and its associated restrictive measures have had a particularly negative impact on vulnerable populations (including people who use drugs, LGBTQI+, sex workers, and migrant workers).

New policing powers, arrest and detention have exposed those already visibly poor and discriminated against to greater health risks; people newly or already caught up in criminal justice systems have been placed at significantly higher risk of ill health and human rights abuses; and increased surveillance serves to further oppress those already criminalised.
