The City of Winnipeg is currently seeking applications for its Home Grown Grant an exciting new way to bring new life to your community’s tree canopy.

Restoring habitat and natural areas
- Projects that contribute to improving the quality and continuity of forest and riverbank ecosystems
- Funding available for either volunteer contractor-planted seedlings and small native trees, including two years of contractor maintenance.

Enhancing parks and greenspaces
- Projects that contribute to increasing canopy cover and diversity in parks and recreational spaces
- Funding available for contractor-planted or – planted shade and ornamental trees, including two years of contractor maintenance.

Revitalizing the communities with street trees
- Projects that contribute new or replacement boulevard trees lost to pest, diseases, or storm damage
- Funding available for contractor-planted shade and ornamental trees, including two years of contractor maintenance.
Funding Information
- The grant offers groups up to $20,000 each for large-scale planting projects on public land.
Eligibility Criteria
- Registered non-profit, non-government organizations are eligible including community, neighborhood, cultural, heritage, youth, environmental, and conservation groups
- Schools adjacent to public lands and publicly owned cemeteries are eligible
- Planting locations must be on publicly owned land within the City of Winnipeg (parks, greenspaces, boulevards, and naturalized areas)
- Private land is NOT eligible for this program
- They will only accept projects valued up to $20,000
- They will consider the potential for successful implementation of the project and the applicant’s commitment to making the project sustainable
- They will prioritize plans for sites in underserved areas or geographic areas of higher poverty
