Housing Fire and Electrical Safety Program – Central Australia Region

Deadline: 23-Apr-23

Applicants are now invited to submit their applications for the Housing Fire and Electrical Safety Program in the Central Australia Region.

The Homelands Housing and Infrastructure Program (HHIP), managed through the Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities (TFHC), is an initiative of the Northern Territory Government (NTG). The program will focus on addressing critical issues with housing and infrastructure on Northern Territory homelands. The HHIP will utilise the $100M investment from the Australian Government to improve housing and infrastructure conditions on homelands. Any surplus funding will be allocated to complete identified priority projects on NT homelands.

Under the HHIP, three (3) Northern Territory wide projects will be established focusing on identified issues with power, water and sanitation infrastructure in NTG funded homelands.

The Housing Fire and Electrical Safety Program is one of these projects and will supplement works provided through the current homelands program.

Homelands and outstations are interchangeable terms used in different parts of the Northern Territory to describe places where small populations of Aboriginal people live in remote areas, on lands to which they have traditional ownership or historical association.

Generally, housing in homelands is communally owned and is not subject to Northern Territory Government (NTG) leasing or part of the NT’s remote public housing system.

TFHC provides a range of grants to assist service providers in the delivery of Municipal and Essential Services (MES) and the maintenance and improvement of currently occupied homes across homelands of the Northern Territory.

Through the homelands program, funding is provided to contribute to the housing and infrastructure maintenance and upgrades across homelands in the region.
