Deadline: 5-May-23
The Horizons Regional Council is inviting applications for the Horizons’ Kanorau Koiora Taketake – Indigenous Biodiversity Community grant to provide funding and advice to community groups who are helping to make this region a healthy environment where people are thriving.
Vision
The vision for this programme is to empower communities to reconnect with and improve indigenous biodiversity.
This vision supports Horizons’ five proposed community outcomes, helping to ensure “Our region’s ecosystems are healthy” and “Our region’s communities are vibrant and empowered”. These outcomes form a key part of Horizons’ strategic approach and align with Council’s vision for the region: Tō tātou rohe – taiao ora, tangata ora, mauri ora. The place – a healthy environment where people are thriving.
Grant applications are sought annually from community led projects that:
- Support connections between nature and people.
- Are non-profit making.
- Work to restore and protect indigenous biodiversity including those that support the regeneration and continuation of mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge).
- Provide opportunities for public to learn about their natural environment or encourage greater use of the natural facilities and amenities (please note that beautification planting, edible forest and community vegetable gardens do not fall into this category).
