The First Peoples’ Cultural Council (FPCC) has announced an Individual Artists Grant that helps artists to improve their skills and knowledge, pursue new approaches, exhibit, perform and gain recognition from their peers.
The Individual Artists grant provides funding to artists working in any discipline, including visual arts, music, dance, ceremony, weaving, carving, theatre, literature and more. Funding supports traditional, contemporary and experimental art forms.
The Individual Artists grant is intended solely for Indigenous artists in B.C., from emerging to advanced, who have demonstrated a commitment to their artistic practice across all forms of creative expressions including but not limited to visual, oral, ceremonial, performance, music, sculpture, carving, weaving, literary, and dance. Applicants of all skill levels must demonstrate commitment to their creative expression and be working to develop their practice to a higher level.
The Individual Artists program assists artists to:
- Increase their skills and knowledge through mentorship and training
- Pursue new approaches or techniques in their practice
- Gain the recognition of their peers and community
- Develop a history of presentation for the public (including but not limited to knowledge sharing events and gatherings, gallery showings, digital platforms, performance, film)
- Spend more time with their creative expression.
Funding Information
- Awards of up to $20,000 are available to individual artists.
Eligible Projects
The project must:
- Have a clear artistic objective
- Provide creative or professional development for the Indigenous artist or artists
- Provide an opportunity for the artist to develop their skills, move forward in their practice and have a meaningful experience through creative expression
Eligibility Criteria
- The funding is limited to First Nations, Inuit and Metis who are residing in B.C. FPCC reserves the right to prioritize creative projects that demonstrate arts revitalization for B.C. First Nations.
- Eligible applicants are First Nations, Metis, and Inuit creators with a creative practice such as songwriters, composers, carvers, storytellers, visual artists, choreographers, dancers, dance groups, performance artists, regalia creatives, weavers, writers.

Applicants must:
- Be committed to furthering their craft and expanding their skillset.
- Demonstrate the support of recognized Indigenous artists, creatives, cultural, or community leaders
- Be a registered resident of British Columbia. If there is a question about whether you live in British Columbia, you may be asked to provide documentation. Your proof of residency can include a valid British Columbia services card, a valid British Columbia driver’s license or evidence of income taxes paid in the previous year as a British Columbia resident.
- Submit only one application per deadline.
- Submit a Final Report for any previous FPCC grants (if applicable). You will not be eligible to apply until all active FPCC grants are closed.
- Have a start date after the application deadline.
- Not have the same project funded through the BCAC programs.
- Funds must be spent by December 31st, 2023.
