Innovation Norway is currently inviting humanitarian organizations to submit applications for projects relevant for the following two schemes with an aim to stimulate innovation projects and strengthen humanitarian emergency preparedness with focus on supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given Innovation Norway the mandate to manage NOK 30 million to humanitarian innovation and preparedness initiatives in 2017.
The purpose of the grant is to stimulate better and more effective response to humanitarian needs by supporting development of smart and sustainable solutions in humanitarian operations.
Schemes
- Humanitarian innovation and piloting
- The objective of this scheme is to support innovation projects where organizations in cooperation with the private sector develop new or more sustainable solutions for the humanitarian sector that will result in better and more efficient humanitarian response, thereby ensuring that more beneficiaries will receive improved assistance.
- The goal of the 2017 scheme is to stimulate innovation projects that focus on one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Humanitarian preparedness
- The objective of this scheme is to contribute to improved preparedness and response in emergency situations. The focus is, but not limited to, supporting prepositioning of emergency relief products as well as solutions that meet needs, and provide the best sustainable solution for the humanitarian operations.
- Priority for the 2017 call will be given to projects that focus on meeting one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Eligibility Criteria
- This programme is relevant for UN organizations and Norwegian registered NGOs with a humanitarian mandate.
- Project size – the project must have a minimum size of 1.0 million NOK. A reasonable budget for the project activities must be presented.
- Project duration – project implementation length is 6 months from the disbursement of the grant. Project must start no later than 1 December 2017. Final report to be submitted by 1 August 2018.
- Relevance – the project must relate to the objective of the scheme and have high relevance to one or more of the identified Sustainable Development Goals.
- Cross-cutting issues – projects that have a positive impact on cross-cutting issues will be prioritized. This includes human rights, gender equality, climate and environment as well as anti-corruption.
- Knowledge transfer – the project must include activities that will ensure sharing of knowledge with other organizations that engage in humanitarian response.
- Sourcing of products and solutions – applicant must have guidelines for procurement in line with applicable rules and regulations.
- Projects that focus on one or more of the SDGs where Norwegian trade and industry have international competitive advantage to contribute will be prioritized. Innovation Norway has identified several relevant opportunity areas which can serve as guidelines: clean energy, bio-economy, health and welfare, smart societies.
