Applications for funding from Rwanda’s NDC climate action facility are open!
Intego will be hosted at the Rwanda Green Fund. The facility has the potential to grow with additional fund commitments by BMZ or other development partners.
Through Intego, public institutions at both the central and local level in Rwanda can access funding for climate change adaptation and mitigation projects in a range of priority areas.
Priority Areas
Intego will finance the implementation of public sector led projects that align to at least one of the mitigation or adaptation measures as per sectors of intervention in Rwanda’s NDC climate action plan.

- Disaster & Risk Management
- Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency
- Landscape Restoration & Forestry
- Biodiversity Conservation
- Integrated Water Resources Management
- Sustainable Cities & Settlements
- Sustainable Transport
Funding Information
- Eligible project proposals shall have a minimum grant funding requirement of Rwf 1 billion and a maximum Grant funding requirement of Rwf 5 billion. However, in case the project proposal’s total budget exceeds Rwf 5 billion, the applicant will have to present proof that the total budget can be covered through the commitment of additional funds (co-financing) prior to the approval of the project proposal. Applicants are encouraged to show their own contributions in kind and cash in their project proposal.
- The overall funding ceiling for the first NDC Facility Call for Proposals is Rwf 18.5 billion.
- The funding period for each project will be between 1 and 3.5 years (maximum of 42 months).
Eligibility Criteria
- The Rwanda Green Fund provides financial support to Public Instititutions, Civil Society Organizations and the Private Sector to implement green projects that have the potential for transformative change in Rwanda.
- The following eligibility criteria will be applied:
- The project must be submitted by a public entity
- The projects should match at least one of the 24 key interventions areas as highlighted in Rwanda’s Updated NDCs
- The projects benefits should be sustained after the lifetime of the project
- The projects should offer good value for money
- The projects should target a high number of beneficiaries with clear demonstration of gender promotion and social inclusion
- The projects implementing entities should demonstrate the capacity to implement the project.
- The projects should comply with Rwanda Green Fund’s Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF). Only projects falling under Category B or C as per risk categorization by KfW and Rwanda Green Fund’s ESMF will be eligible for funding.
