Made in Western Australia Program

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries is now inviting applications for its Made in Western Australia Program.

Objectives

• Funding delivered through Made in WA is intended to:
  • increase the number and quality of performance-based works created and produced in regional WA
  • ensure new work created in regional WA is relevant to regional audiences
  • enable employment and professional skill development opportunities for regional artists and arts workers
  • establish or further develop partnerships and collaborations between artists, producers, arts organizations and regional venues
  • showcase the unique stories of Western Australia, engage new audiences and contribute to the liveability and vibrancy of regional communities
  • support projects that increase access and participation or presentation opportunities by, with or for Aboriginal communities and/or young people.

Funding Information

• Eligible applicants can apply for up to $150,000.
• The project must be completed within 24 months of receiving the funds. 

Eligibility Criteria

• Applications are open to artists, producers and arts organizations working in partnership with regional venues, or vice versa, provided they meet the following criteria:
  • the artist, arts company, organization or festival that will develop and/or produce the work is based in Western Australia 
  • the venue or festival that will premiere the work is in regional WA and has the capacity to receive and/or produce touring performing arts productions. 
  • Any of the parties can be the primary applicant; however, it is recommended that the application is prepared and submitted by the party that will take the lead on coordinating the commission. 

Please note that if successful, the primary applicant will also be the one who is issued with the contract and is responsible for receiving payment and acquitting the grant. 

What can I apply for?

• Eligible applicants can apply for funding to support the direct costs associated with the commissioning, development and presentation elements of new work that:
  • will be undertaken primarily in one or more regional WA locations AND 
  • will premiere at a regional WA venue or festival.
• The new work must be regionally relevant, with the presentation taking place at a regional venue, location or festival event.
• The new work may already be in early development at the time of applying, however the program cannot provide funds for the remount of an existing work or for costs already incurred.
• In addition, projects that involve collaborations with, or between any of the following parties will be highly regarded:
  • regional artists
  • small-to-medium or independent arts organizations or artists
  • Aboriginal organisations, communities or artists
  • Major Performing Arts companies 
  • Culture and Arts Portfolio agencies – Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth Theater Trust, State Library of Western Australia (including the State Records Office of Western Australia) and the Western Australian Museum  
  • national or international artists, arts companies, organizations or festivals.
