The Maine Community Foundation is seeking applications for its Lifelong Communities Mini-Grants that support efforts to make communities more supportive of older people’s health, well-being, and ability to age in the community.
This includes community planning and the development and implementation of programs that will increase opportunities for people over 60 to stay in their communities as they age.
Program Aims
The mini-grants are aimed at filling gaps in resources needed to help people stay and engage in their communities as they age. This includes support for:
- Gathering information about related resources and needs in your community;
- Engaging community members through focus groups, meetings, and other methods;
- Implementing projects that will improve the quality of life for older community members;
- Planning and implementing dementia-friendly initiatives.
Criteria & Priorities
- Criteria: Proposed projects must be:
- Focused on ageing in the community;
- Community-led;
- Informed by older people’s participation and input;
- Responsive to needs the community has identified and prioritized.
- Priorities: The program will give priority to projects that –
- Have municipal leadership and/or support;
- Have strong community partners;
- Propose creative, low-cost solutions;
- Have the high potential to positively impact the quality of life of community members over age 60;
- Address inequities and engage a diverse range of older residents, including those with low incomes, disabilities, mental health conditions, limited English proficiency;
- People of colour or racial minority groups; immigrants and/or refugees; and those who identify as LGBTQ.
Funding Information
- Max Award: $2,500.
Types of Funding
This program provides:
- Project support for new or expanding projects and ongoing programs.
What will not fund?
- Expenses already incurred;
- Regranting to a secondary grantee through a competitive process;
- Political campaigns;
- Lobbying in the form of calls to action on a specific vote;
- Religious activities, including, but not limited to, religious services, promotion of religious beliefs, or activities that are restricted to church or religious group membership.
Eligibility Criteria
- Who is eligible to apply?
- Nonprofit, charitable organizations tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and also classified as an organization described in sections 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2);
- Municipalities;
- Public schools;
- Public agencies working for the State of Maine;
- Indian tribal governments (or political subdivisions) recognized by the Department of the Interior;
- Groups without any tax status may apply a fiscal sponsor that is an eligible organization as described above.
