Deadline: 8-Jul-25
A new opportunity has been announced to support the sustainable recovery of Malaysia’s tourism sector. Organizations operating in Malaysia are invited to submit concept proposals for a project focused on strengthening tourism resilience and promoting eco-friendly and inclusive development across four selected destinations in the country.
The initiative is designed to assist Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and local communities by promoting sustainable tourism practices aligned with the National Ecotourism Plan (2016–2025) and the National Tourism Policy (2020–2030). The goal is not only to aid in the recovery of tourism after recent disruptions but also to guide it toward a more environmentally conscious and community-centered future.
Grants of up to USD 150,000 (disbursed in Ringgit Malaysia) will be made available to selected organizations. The duration for each funded project is expected to range between six to nine months, with all activities to be completed by June 2026.
Applicants can propose projects that address one or more of the following areas: ecotourism carrying capacity assessments, development of learning villages, creation of destination branding strategies, or even rehabilitation and restoration of natural buffer zones. Additional activities could include conducting tourist satisfaction surveys or producing materials to support local ecotourism centers.
Eligibility is limited to non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, civil society groups, social enterprises with a clear social impact, and research institutions. All applicants must be legally registered in Malaysia and be operational in at least one of the designated project locations.
This initiative presents a unique opportunity for local institutions to contribute to a greener and more resilient tourism future in Malaysia while directly impacting community well-being and environmental conservation.
