Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Quick Response Grant Programme – New Zealand

The Auckland Council is delighted to launch its Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Quick Response Grant Programme.

Funding Priorities

They welcome grant applications which will transform Manukau through good planning and sustainable development, and that align to the following priorities:

• Prosperous local economy
  • Revitalising Ōtara and Papatoetoe town centres.
  • Creating events to showcase and attract people to the area.
  • Prioritising Māori outcomes.
  • Promoting and encouraging sustainable practices in local business and enterprise.
• A thriving, inclusive and safe community
  • Recognising and making Māori and Pacific arts, culture and history visible in public places.
  • Promoting health and wellbeing to build capable and resilient communities with a sense of belonging.
  • An active and engaged community, leading local initiatives.
  • Increase opportunities for skill development, employment.
  • Encouraging rangatahi, young people and seniors take part in civic life.
  • Parks and facilities that meet the people’s needs.
  • Celebrate a thriving Māori identity as Auckland’s point of difference in the world.
  • The seniors are cared for and intergenerational projects are encouraged.
• Sustainable, healthy natural environment
  • Minimising waste going into landfill.
  • Restoring biodiversity and improving water quality in local streams, the Manukau Harbour, and the Tāmaki Estuary.
  • Promoting and enhancing sustainable practices by local businesses, families and neighbourhoods.
  • Increasing the tree canopy cover in the area.
• Connected area and easy to get around
  • Promotion of safe cycling and pedestrian environments.
• Higher priority for eligibility
  • They will prioritise applications that are:
    • smoke and vape free, alcohol and drug free
    • zero-waste
    • promoting healthy options for food and drink, including water as the first choice
    • promoting active lifestyles
    • from residents and community groups residing in Ōtara-Papatoetoe
    • supporting and promoting local events and campaigns that encourage emergency preparedness, foster resilience and social connection locally – and strengthen community capacity to respond to the effects of COVID-19.
• Lower priority for eligibility
  • They will also consider applications for other services, projects and activities, but they may identify the following as lower priority:
    • Applications from businesses, and promotion of businesses.
    • Ticketed events.
    • Activities that primarily benefit:
      • communities outside the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board area
      • a third party (for example an activity to gain money for an organisation).
    • Grants to support the purchase of, or maintenance associated with, motor vehicles.
    • Wages or operational costs.
    • Equipment for one-off events.
    • Initiatives that are eligible and can be funded by central government.

  • Manukau metropolitan centre is the thriving heart of the area – an attractive visitor destination, business centre and place to shop, live, learn, work and play.
• Prosperous local economy
  • The lively town centres drive sustainable economic development and attract investors and visitors.
  • Youth and the community have many opportunities to gain skills and employment that result in a high standard of living.
• A thriving, inclusive and safe community
  • The community is connected across different cultures, has a sense of belonging and is proud of the area.
  • People feel welcome and safe, they support each other, and have better access to transport.
• Parks and facilities that meet the people’s needs.
  • The parks and facilities are fit for purpose and reflect the communities they serve, building a sense of identity, ownership and pride in the area while boosting participation and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
• Sustainable, healthy natural environment
  • They care for the natural environment and foster sustainable lifestyles.
  • The waterways and environment are healthy and free from pests, litter and pollution.
  • They value the natural world and preserve kaitiakitanga locally.
• Connected area and easy to get around
  • Everyone can easily and safely get around on foot, bicycle, bus, train and car.

• Sports and recreation

What they will not fund?

• They will not fund:
  • applications for liquor licenses
  • core activities and tasks of business entities
  • hiring facilities for religious purposes
  • applicants who have already had two successful grants applications in the current financial year.

Eligibility Criteria

• community organisations with a formal legal structure
• groups or individuals with no formal legal structure can apply for up to $1,000 (Kaipatiki Local Board will not fund individuals)
• applicants seeking funding over $1,000 will need to nominate an umbrella organisation or
• receive funding retrospectively.

Ineligible

• Political parties
• Internal applicants (i.e. to fund projects, programmes or facilities run by Auckland Council or its employees)
• Auckland Council CCOs (council-controlled organisations), including facilities owned and operated by Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA)
• Other local authorities, government agencies or public sector entities.
