The Community Foundation of Mendocino County’s Mendocino County ReLeaf Tree Planting to encourage, promote and maintain urban forests in cities and unincorporated areas for the public benefit throughout Mendocino County.
Priority will be given to projects that utilize native trees and have a detailed maintenance and reporting plan. Eligible projects include, but are not limited to: fruit tree orchards for food banks and community dining rooms, street trees, park trees, and trees on school sites and after-care programs.

Eligibility Criteria
If you received a Field-of-Interest grant earlier in the year, your organization is still eligible to apply to this round of funding, provided you complete an interim report prior to the deadline. City and county entities will be considered on a request-by-request basis. All other applicant organizations must:
- serve residents of Mendocino County. Applicants not headquartered in Mendocino County must ensure that all grant dollars requested are spent within the County;
- be legally chartered in California and in possession of determination letter from the IRS declaring the organization a public charity that is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3); or be a school district, tribe, or special district (e.g. community services, recreation, fire protection); or have an aligned mission with a fiscal sponsor;
- have two years of operational history; and
- conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, national origin, or religious affiliation.
Criteria
Successful grantees are able to demonstrate the following:
- Planting must be for public benefit;
- Funds may be used for trees and materials necessary for planting (stakes, etc.);
- Species should be chosen that do well in the area, with preference given to native species; where suitable, plant fruit and nut trees;
- Watering systems should be specified. Preference is given to drip irrigation systems that can be expanded as the trees grow; and
- A 5-year management plan must be provided, outlining quarterly activities, such as watering, mulching, and pruning.
