The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is offering grants to charities, community groups, and organizations for community-based mental health services and supports.
The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia’s Call for Community Grants occurs bi-annually in January and July. Since 2006 the Foundation has invested more than $9.45 million in grants to Nova Scotian organizations.
Purpose
- To improve the mental wellness of Nova Scotians by granting funds to community-based mental health and addictions organizations.
Focus Areas
- The Foundation’s purpose is to support initiatives supporting people living with mental illness, addiction, or achieving mental wellness. The areas of focus reflect the purpose.
- Addictions – including gambling, alcohol or substance use, sexual, etc
- Mental Health Education/Training
- Mood – including anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, grief, etc
- Other Mental Illness – including eating disorder, personality disorder, psychosis, schizo-effective, etc
- Suicide Prevention
- Trauma – including ACE, IPV, PTSD, etc
Funding Information
- The maximum amount of funding per project is $25,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Partnerships and joint requests are eligible (and encouraged!). In the case of a partnership, one organization should be identified as the lead organization to receive the grant funds and be responsible for reporting on the project.
- If you are a registered charity with Canada Revenue Agency, please list your charitable registration number. Please don’t include any other business number or registry number.
Criteria
- Applications should support the Foundation’s purpose and vision, and demonstrate:
- Evidence-based measurable impact
- Financial, social, economic value and reflective of the current climate
- Support for diverse communities or vulnerable populations
- Attention to overall quality, including spelling and grammar
- A vision for sustainability or future growth
- Collaboration and partnership
- Clear timeline and objectives
- Detailed, fiscally responsible budget
Ineligible
- The following requests aren’t eligible.
- Projects that should be funded by the government
- Projects outside of Nova Scotia
- Conferences or event sponsorship
- Capital campaigns and projects
- General endowment funds
- Medical equipment
- Requests over $25,000
- Fundraisers
- Deficits
- Research
- Requests from organizations with overdue reporting requirements for previous grants
- First-time Community Grant recipients are not eligible to apply in the very next round of funding
