The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia Community Grants are now open for applications to support individuals and organizations province-wide to undertake programs or services that will benefit the mental health of Nova Scotians.
Since 2006 the Foundation has invested more than $9.45 million in grants to Nova Scotia organizations. The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia Call for Community Grants occurs bi-annually in January and July.
Funding Information
- The Foundation provides up to $25,000 per project to charities, community groups, businesses, and organizations to fund community-based mental health services and supports.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia supports community initiatives throughout the province that provide hope and eradicate the stigma surrounding mental illness and addiction.
- Registered charities, non-profit organizations and community organizations that serve Nova Scotians living with mental disorders are eligible to apply.
Criteria
- The Foundation strives to fund programs that fill the current gaps in care and enable Nova Scotians living with mental illness and addiction to thrive in their own communities. Preference will be given to applications that demonstrate:
- Evidence-based measurable impact
- Financial, social, economic value and reflective of the current climate
- Support for racialized and/or marginalized communities
- Attention is given to overall quality including spelling and grammar
- Adherence to the Foundation’s Gift Acceptance Policy
- A vision for future growth
- Collaboration and partnership
- Clear timeline and objectives
- Detailed, fiscally responsible budgets
Exclusions
- Operating deficits or expenses
- Projects which should be funded by the government
- Projects outside of Nova Scotia
- Conferences or event sponsorship
- Capital campaigns and projects
- General endowment funds
- Medical equipment
- Requests over $25,000
- Fundraisers
- Research
Grant Selection Process
- The Foundation is committed to ensuring transparency, integrity, efficiency, and public trust. They are stewards of the money they raise and accountable in their funding decisions. All grant applications are reviewed by a committee of independent volunteers who make up their Grants Selection Committee.
- They are responsible for ensuring fair and unbiased decisions as well as appropriate usage of funds. The Grants Selection Committee is comprised of community and business leaders throughout Nova Scotia who are committed to making a difference for those living with mental illness and their families.
