The Australian Government is seeking applications for the Mental Health Program – Community Based Eating Disorder to implement innovative and specialised eating disorder treatments, interventions, services and supports in the community setting.
Treatments, interventions, services and supports delivered under this grant opportunity will need to be innovative, lived-experienced focused and be evidence-based to best address national and local need.
Evidence-based eating disorder treatments, interventions, services and supports delivered under this grant opportunity should cover a range of eating disorder diagnoses and will need to include an evaluation component which aligns with the activities of the Australian Eating Disorders Research & Translation Centre.
Grant activities must be delivered in Australia and have national reach / demonstrate capacity for national scalability, or identify existing, equivalent programs that when combined with your activities provide national reach. For localised activities, PHN support must be obtained and be demonstrated through a letter of support or joint application with the relevant PHN(s).
Objectives
The objectives of the program are:
- Increase access to evidence-based eating disorder treatments, interventions,services and supports delivered in the primary care setting;
- Ensure access to eating disorder treatments, interventions, services and supports for people who are currently prohibited due to geographical barriers;
- Embed eating disorder care coordinators in Primary Health Networks (PHNs) and Aboriginal Community Control Health Organisations to better connect people to the right care at the right time, and support GPs to confidently identify patients with or at risk of an eating disorder;
- Establishment of multidisciplinary teams to deliver eating disorder treatments, interventions, services and supports through existing primary care settings;
- Deliver digital or telehealth eating disorder treatments, interventions, services and supports, targeted at people on wait lists for longer term face to face treatment;
- Establishment of community-based meal support programs;
- Determine the effectiveness of new and innovative eating disorder treatments, interventions, services and supports at a local level, prior to implementing Nationally;
- Provide step-down supports for people discharged from hospital and communitybased residential eating disorder treatment centres; and
- Introduce emerging and innovative eating disorder treatments, interventions, services and supports to the primary care setting.

- Statutory Entity; or
- Partnership
- If you are applying as a Trustee on behalf of a Trust, the Trustee must have an eligible entity type as listed above.
- Applications from consortia are acceptable, as long as you have a lead applicant for each
- grant who is solely accountable to the Commonwealth for the delivery of grant activities and is an eligible entity.
