Do you have a great idea for your community? Through the Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program, small grants of up to $500 are available for people to lead a project in their neighbourhood.
The Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program helps residents of any age, experience, or background take part in building community.

Small grants of up to $500 are available for people to lead a project in their neighbourhood.
What do they fund?
Neighbourhood Small Grants are awarded to projects that meet one or more of the following goals:
- Connect and engage neighbours
- Examples: Virtual block parties or emergency preparedness planning sessions
- Share neighbours’ skills and knowledge within the community
- Examples: A free online yoga lesson for the community or a virtual community kitchen where neighbours share their cooking skills
- Build sense of belonging and connection
- Examples: A virtual Indigenous plant walking tour led by an Elder
- Respect and celebrate diversity
- Examples: A virtual multicultural fashion show, a virtual story telling project that involves seniors and youth, or an online acrylic painting workshop open to all ages and skill levels
Eligibility Criteria
- The Neighbourhood Small Grants program is open to anyone living in the Quadra Village, Oaklands, Burnside Gorge and North Park neighbourhoods.
- Youth-led projects are encouraged.
Criteria
- Projects must be deliverable within current public health guidelines for your area.
- Projects must take place from/close to your own home in order to accommodate the self-isolation public health requirements.
- Projects can be carried out by individuals and/or family members from the same household with proper social distancing practices.
- An applicant can apply for more than one Neighbourhood Small Grants project per year. Previous projects must be completed and reports submitted before applying again.
- Your project must be free, accessible and welcoming to all. You may not charge entrance fees, request donations, or fundraise for other projects and/or organizations.
- You must begin your project after the grant decision is made. Projects are not supported retroactively.
- Preference will be given to new projects or those that have been funded for fewer than three years in a row.
