Funding Priorities
The Council welcomes grant applications that align to the following priorities:
- People are resilient and can adapt to change.
- People are included, interconnected and celebrate the diversity.
- Maori cultural heritage is valued and protected.
- Neighbourhoods have a strong sense of identity and create a connection to place.
- The environment is protected and restored.
- The community has sustainable lifestyles and takes climate action.
- The local economy is growing and provides stable employment options.
- Town centres are attractive destinations.
- The people can live healthy active lifestyles.
- The parks and open space meet the needs of growing populations and diverse communities.
- The community services and buildings provide diverse and inclusive spaces that meet the changing needs of the community.

- Grant value: $500 – $3000
Outcomes
The grants programme will support the following outcomes:
- Resilient, connected and empowered communities who value diversity.
- Neighbourhoods that reflect and value the heritage and unique identity now and into the future.
- High-quality natural environments and sustainable lifestyles. A strong local economy with thriving town centres.
- Parks and community facilities meet a wide range of needs.
- Safe, easy and sustainable options for moving around.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Applicants
- community organisations with a formal legal structure
- groups or individuals with no formal legal structure can apply for up to $1,000 (Kaipatiki Local Board will not fund individuals)
- applicants seeking funding over $1,000 will need to nominate an umbrella
- organisation or
- receive funding retrospectively.
- Higher priority for eligibility
- Projects and activities that demonstrate smokefree programmes and promote zero-waste and low carbon messages.
- Applicants who have considered other sources of funding for their project.
- Projects that are inclusive and support under-represented members of the community.
- Projects/activities with Maori outcomes.
- The Council will also consider applications for match funding. This is where grants are provided in exchange for the community’s ‘match’ in volunteer labour, cash or donated goods and services up to the value of 50 per cent. Applications will be prioritised and assessed under the same priorities as other grants.
- During the financial year 2022 there will be a particular focus on support for initiatives that address community resilience and recovery post COVID-19.
- Projects and activities that demonstrate smokefree programmes and promote zero-waste and low carbon messages.
- Lower priority for eligibility
- They will also consider applications for other services, projects and activities, but they may identified as lower priorities:
- Commercial entities and their promotion.
- Ticketed events.
- Activities that primarily benefit communities outside the Albert-Eden Local Board area.
- Activities that primarily benefit a third party (e.g. activity to gain money for an organisation).
- Grants to support the purchase of, or maintenance associated with, motor vehicles.
- Wages or operational costs.
- Projects and activities in schools unless it benefits the wider community, is accessible to the public or wider community, or has environmental or climate change initiatives.
- Catering.
- Fundraising activities for a group or organisation.
- Gifts and prizes.
- Purchase of assets and equipment with limited future use.
- Eligible initiatives that can be funded by central government.
- Travel unless there is strong evidence of the benefits to the community.
- They will also consider applications for other services, projects and activities, but they may identified as lower priorities:
