Applications are now open for the Horowhenua Vibrant Communities Fund to support one-off celebratory, educational, competitive, commemorative or exhibitive projects and events that help specific community groups to celebrate their identity and share them with the wider community.
Funding Information
- Funding awarded will vary, but the average grant approved for this fund is between $500 and $3,000.
Principles
- Collective action
- Community-led development is both an outcome and a way of doing things. It is one way of achieving Horowhenua’s community wellbeing vision of Horowhenua being a safe, vibrant, inclusive and connected community.
- Council’s role is to create conditions that enable community-led development to flourish and enable people and organisations to work collaboratively to achieve common objectives.
- Their communities have completed projects or advocacy efforts that will drive ongoing mahi in their future neighbourhoods.
- Sense of community
- Promote inclusion, reduce discrimination and remove barriers to opportunity and participation, particularly for disadvantaged groups.
- They have an important role to play in promoting equity and fairness, which is crucial for improving the wellbeing of all people in Horowhenua. One of their strengths is that they have strategic tools and levers to achieve positive change on a large scale.
- Their communities identify with their neighbourhoods, feel connected and support one another.
- Social cohesion
- Social cohesion involves building shared values and communities that anticipate opportunities, reducing disparities in wealth and income, and generally enabling people to have a sense that they are engaged in a common purpose, facing shared challenges, and that they are of the same community.
- Council’s role is to foster and advocate for such opportunities. Their communities have the willingness and competency to work cooperatively.
What can they apply for?
- Materials or supplies needed to run your project or event.
- Venue or equipment hire.
- Personnel and administrative costs for your projects or event.
- Promotion and publicity to attract attendees or participants to your project or event.
- Volunteer Support – If your project or event relies on volunteer support, funding can be requested towards the necessary resources or recognition for their contribution.
Eligibility Criteria
- These grants are open for applications from any not-for-profit group/organisation.
- Applications must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for consideration in having their projects funded:
- The project or event aims to support one-off celebratory, educational, competitive, commemorative or exhibitive projects and events that help specific community groups to celebrate their identity and share them with the wider community.
- The project or event must take place in the Horowhenua.
- Projects or events must be clearly defined with a beginning and end, occur for a limited time but are not regularly scheduled, i.e. weekly cultural activity classes.
- Projects and events should be locally significant, of special interest to the people of Horowhenua and enhance community wellbeing.
- The programme must demonstrate collaboration across community organisations
- The programme or project must be completed within the nine month period of funds allocated.
- Applications must also clearly demonstrate a link to at least one of the Horowhenua District Council’s Strong Communities Ngā Hapori Kia Kaha – Community Wellbeing Strategy, 2021 – 2024 key principles.
Ineligible
- Central Government and other organisations that have significant means of regular income.
- Community and Social Development programmes.
- Organisations needing considerable capital funding.
- Organisational operating expenses.
