The Manawatu- River Leaders’ Accord community funding programme is now open to provide an opportunity for their communities to engage positively and constructively by helping to improve the quality of their awa.
The programme provides an opportunity for their communities to engage positively and constructively by helping to improve the quality of their awa. These improvements could be in direct relation to water quality, or in the way people connect with the waterways in the Manawatū Catchment. The Accord looks to empower community groups or individuals, by holding information sessions and providing access to resources enabling them to complete projects which will assist in achieving the goals of the Accord.
Goals
The four key goals are:
- The Manawatu- River becomes a source of regional pride and mana.
- Waterways in the Manawatu- Catchment are safe, accessible, swimmable, and provide good recreation and food resources.
- The Manawatu- Catchment and waterways are returned to a healthy condition.
- Sustainable use of the land and water resources of the Manawatu- Catchment continues to underpin the economic prosperity of the region.
Funding Information
They are currently seeking grant applications for the final year of funding, there is a total pool of $80,000 and projects must have a final deliverable date of 20 June 2023.
What can you Apply for?
- Their Manawatu- -River Leaders’ Accord grants programme focuses on helping you restore water quality in the Manawatu- Catchment and achieve the goals of the Accord. Therefore projects that focus on the vision and goals of the River Accord will be considered favourably.
- Applications are assessed on their environmental benefits, feasibility, community involvement and long-term benefits to the region. Administration costs can be included but must be reasonable and in line with the size of the project.
Eligibility Criteria
- Non-profit organisations such as community groups, schools, early childhood centres, iwi/hapu groups, and individuals or landowners are eligible for their funding.
- The project must be non-profit making.
Criteria
- The project must have clear objectives that are consistent with the goals of the Manawatū River Leaders’ Accord;
- The application must demonstrate a tangible improvement in community understanding and involvement in cleaning up the river;
- Projects must be heavily weighted towards tangible outcomes.
- Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with iwi/hapū;
- Demonstrate a degree of actively engaging the community with the Manawatū River
- Be for projects that are designed to become self supporting without on-going financial contributions;
- Demonstrate the necessary skills and experience to undertake the project;
- Demonstrate how the outcomes of the project would be maintained in the future;
- Demonstrate how the effectiveness of the project will be measured and reported.
- Demonstrate how the project will meet its Health and Safety obligations.
