Deadline: 16-Jul-21
The NextFifty Initiative has announced the applications to provide flexible funding to organizations and programs that improve the lives and capacities of adults age 50 and older and/or their caregivers.
Flexible Support grants are restricted to organizations or programs that serve (or seek to serve) older adults, but funds can be used flexibly.
Instead of being asked to articulate a specific project plan and budget, Flexible Support grant applicants will be asked about their organization’s and/or program’s goals and how the funding will support the achievement of those goals.
Their goal for this funding opportunity is to help organizations and programs serving older adults achieve their goals and improve their work toward enhancing the lives of older adults.
NextFifty Initiative is committed to social equity and expects grantees to demonstrate performance accountability that is free from discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, color, religion, national origin, disability, military status, genetic information, or any other protected status.
In addition, NextFifty Initiative seeks to fund organizations, projects, or programs that target the most underserved in the aging sector, including, but not limited to; black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC), disabled, homeless, LGBTQ+, low-income, rural, and vulnerable communities.
Funding Information
- Nonprofits that have not yet completed an external audit or those with an audit older than 6/30/2019 will be limited to funding requests of $25,000 or less.
- Nonprofits with an annual operating budget of $250,000 or less are eligible to request more than $25,000 but must submit an external Financial Review or Compilation in lieu of an audit.
What will NextFifty Initiative consider funding?
Grant requests must be directed toward the aging or the aging-disabled population age 50 and over, or the caregivers of these populations.
What will not be funded?
- Requests that are not directed towards individuals over 50 and/or their caregivers
- Requests that involve payment or reimbursement of individual bills (i.e., medical bills, rent assistance, etc.)
- Requests that target lobbying interests or efforts, political campaigns, and requests with a goal of supporting a specific political position
- Requests seeking general event sponsorships
- Type III non-functionally integrated supporting organizations (as classified by IRS form 990, Schedule A, Part 1)
Eligibility Criteria
- Grants will be made to nonprofit entities organized under sections 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and 501(c)(6) of the IRS code that are in good standing with the state or jurisdiction in which the organization resides. Governmental entities are also eligible for funding.
- NextFifty Initiative will allow organizations to submit an application through a fiscal sponsor. A fiscal sponsor is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides fiduciary oversight, financial management, and other grant administrative services. A fiscal sponsor is held legally responsible for the management of grant funds and the obligations of the grant.
- IRS regulations require that NextFifty Initiative collect additional information from organizations that are not 501(c)(3) public charities to demonstrate that grant funds would be used exclusively for charitable, not political or member-oriented, purposes. This is called expenditure responsibility.
