The National Park Service is soliciting applications for its Semiquincentennial Grant Program to support the physical preservation of a broad variety of cultural resources associated with the founding of America as a nation in commemoration of the country’s semiquincentennial (250th anniversary).
The National Park Service’s (NPS) Semiquincentennial Grant Program will preserve cultural resources related to the founding of the nation. These grants are funded by the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), administered by the NPS, and will fund physical preservation of buildings, sites, structures, objects, or historic districts, listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Grants are awarded through a competitive process and do not require non-Federal match, though match may be considered as a competitive factor.
Purpose
- Historic resources supported by this program may include those associated with or that commemorate the political ideas, well-known individuals, pivotal events, or sites of conflict typically thought of in conjunction with this period of American history. Applications involving resources that broadly illustrate or commemorate the people, places, or events throughout all areas that would eventually become the United States, through 1815, are also encouraged. Such resources may reflect what people thought and did, and thus illustrate the lifeways, folkways, foodways, people, places, events, and condition of culture and society during the formation of the country. Eligible properties may be owned by non-profits, local governments, or State or Tribal governments; priority will be given to State-owned resources.
Goal
- The goal of this program is to honor the Semiquincentennial (250th) anniversary of the United States by preserving sites and structures listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places that tell the story of the founding of the nation.

Eligible Activities
- All project work must be undertaken for the physical preservation and/or necessary pre preservation work, and must meet the appropriate Secretary of Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation. Activities related to drafting or amending National Register nominations for the subject resource are eligible costs.

- Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
- Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Nonprofits without 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Private institutions of higher education
Ineligibility Criteria
- Sites or collections owned or leased by the NPS, or in which the NPS holds a property interest are not eligible.
