Ability Foundation is seeking nominations for CavinKare Ability Awards 2020 to leads awareness-building on the capabilities of persons with disabilities in India.
CavinKare ABILITY Awards were jointly instituted by Ability Foundation & CavinKare Pvt Ltd, in 2003 to honour achievers with disabilities who have soared beyond conventional barriers to realise their chosen dreams.
They are national awards recognising exemplary services as well as accomplishments of the achievers. The world of social entrepreneurs, especially those with disability, is a lonely one. And those who have succeeded and brought about significant changes need to be recognised and appreciated.
Ability Foundation
Ability Foundation works for the empowerment, integration and rights of people with disabilities. With mainstreaming and inclusion as its constant theme, the Foundation has initiated a slew of innovative programmes that aim at total inclusion of people with disabilities.
They work ceaselessly for the creation of a society that recognises the value of diversity. People with disabilities are to be seen as part of the infinite richness of diversity and must be accorded the same spaces and avenues for empowerment as everyone else.

A society where persons with and without disability walk hand-in-hand, work shoulder-to-shoulder and are accepted as equal partners; where help to all comes out of empathy, not sympathy.
Mission
- To promote equal opportunities for persons with disabilities that will enable integration in mainstream society;
- To bring out the latent talents of persons with disabilities so as to maximise the utilisation of their skills and abilities;
- To bring in attitudinal changes in society towards persons with disabilities and change the public’s stereotyped perceptions.
Award Categories
The awards come in two categories:
- CavinKare ABILITY Award for Eminence
- It is given to 1 person with disability, who has demonstrated a commitment to others that goes beyond personal triumphs. The Award comprises a memento, a citation and a cash prize of Rs.2 lakhs.
- CavinKare ABILITY Mastery Awards
- These are given to 3 persons who have not allowed their disability to come in the way of attaining excellence in their chosen field. These awards recognise mastery in any area of one’s choice and to those who have set high standards for themselves and achieved their ambitions. The Award comprises a memento, citation and a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh each.
Eligibility Criteria
- CavinKare Ability Mastery Awards:
- Nominees should be persons with disability and be Indian citizens;
- A minimum of two references must be cited in the nomination form.
- CavinKare Ability Award for Eminence:
- Nominees should be persons with disability and be Indian citizens;
- The nominee should be the founder of a social service organisation. The Organisation need not necessarily be working for people with disabilities;
- The nominee should have worked in India in his/her field of service for a minimum of three years. The result of the nominee’s social entrepreneurship should be evident and continuing at the time of nomination;
- A minimum of two references must be cited in the nomination form.
Selection Process
The screening process includes scrutiny and short listing, based on the details given in the nomination form. This is followed by site visits and reference checks by regional representatives. An eminent jury then selects the final recipients.
