The NSW Government is seeking applications for its 2021-23 Heritage Grants.
Aims
The 2021-23 funding round aims to:
- Improve identification, protection, knowledge, and understanding of the State’s heritage.
- Assist owners and custodians with the conservation and activation of items of State and local heritage significance and Aboriginal Places.
- Encourage promotion, celebration, and cultural participation of the State’s heritage.
- Increase resilience in NSW: recovery from and preparedness for disasters.
- Stimulate the economy.
Grant Categories
In this round, there are three broad categories of grants:
- Aboriginal Cultural Heritage: The category supports understanding, conservation, and protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage by funding:
- heritage management documents;
- heritage works projects;
- cultural participation projects.
- Caring for State Heritage: The Caring for State Heritage Grants category only applies to projects relating to items listed on the SHR. This NSW Government funding supports the better management, maintenance, conservation, activation, and interpretation of SHR items.
- Community Heritage: The Community Heritage Grants category supports communities and local government to identify, conserve, and promote heritage.
Funding Information
- Aboriginal Cultural Heritage:
- Heritage management document – Maximum $20,000;
- Heritage works project – Minimum $20,000 & Maximum $70,000;
- Cultural participation project – Minimum $10,000 & Maximum $50,000.
- Caring for State Heritage:
- Conservation management – Maximum $20,000;
- Works project – Minimum $20,000 & Maximum $150,000;
- Interpretation project – Minimum $10,000 & Maximum $40,000.
- Community Heritage:
- Community Engagement projects – Minimum $10,000 & Maximum $50,000;
- Local Government Heritage Studies – Minimum $10,000 & Maximum $60,000;
- Small Heritage Grants Program – Up to $10,000 (based on pool of funds);
- Local Heritage Advisor Service – Up to $10,000 (based on pool of funds).
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Grants category:
- Applicants are an Aboriginal Organisation, Aboriginal Corporation, or Aboriginal community group.
- Applicants are an individual, consultant, organisation or Local Government organisation with the demonstrated support of an Aboriginal Organisation, Aboriginal Corporation or Aboriginal community organisation or Aboriginal community group.
- Applicant must be located in NSW or working with Aboriginal communities in NSW.
- If Applicants are applying for an activity that relates to a specific item or place you must also have legal responsibility for maintenance and repair of the site and/or the written consent of the landholder/owner.
- To be eligible under the Caring for State Heritage Grants category you must meet both of the following:
- Applicants are the owner, manager, long-term lessee, or custodian of an SHR listed item (item listed under the Heritage Act 1977) and you fall into one of the following groups:
- Aboriginal custodian.
- Community organisation.
- Local government organisation.
- Not-for-profit organisation.
- University.
- Religious organisation.
- Private company.
- Private individual, including a family trust.
- Applicants have legal responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the SHR listed item in their application.
- Applicants are the owner, manager, long-term lessee, or custodian of an SHR listed item (item listed under the Heritage Act 1977) and you fall into one of the following groups:
- Applicants are eligible for funding towards a Community Engagement project if they are one of the following:
- Individual;
- Consultant;
- Community group;
- Non-government organisation;
- NSW local council or regional group councils (local government);
- Applicants are eligible to apply for funding towards Local Government Heritage Studies, Small Heritage Grants Program and Local Heritage Advisor Service if applicants are a NSW local council or regional group of councils (local government).
