The Japan Foundation is accepting applications for its Japan Outreach Initiative Program to dispatch Japanese individuals in the Southern, Midwestern, and Mountain regions of the U.S. for two years as outreach coordinators.
Coordinators provide information about Japanese culture, society, everyday life, and language in local community settings and organize activities that foster interactions between Japan and the United States.
Funding Information
A US $1,280 monthly stipend, round-trip air tickets, housing, etc., are provided.
Duration: 2 years (August 2023 to July 2025)
Example of Activities
- Conducting presentations and activities on Japanese culture and society for schools, colleges, and the community.
- Organizing or coordinating festivals based on a Japanese holiday, event, or custom.
- Organizing or coordinating lectures or discussions on traditional and / or current Japanese culture and society.
- Facilitating and developing exchange activities between the local community and Japan.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible individuals must meet all the following criteria:
- Japanese national;
- Have a four-year college degree or higher;
- Have a valid driver's license;
- Have an excellent command of English to conduct activities;
- Have basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.);
- Physically and mentally healthy as well as be able to live and work in the US throughout the two-year term;
- Have an interest and motivation to actively participate in international cultural exchanges;
- Attend the selection interview and orientation in Japan.
