PEPFAR/CDC: Strengthening the National Institutes of Health in the Republic of Mozambique

Peabody Community Fund in the UK

Deadline: 18 October 2016

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is currently seeking applications for its program entitled “Strengthening the National Institutes of Health in the Republic of Mozambique under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)” with an aim to conduct disease surveillance, monitoring and evaluation of public health programs, outbreak investigations, laboratory science, training of health professionals, and other functions vital to the country’s public health response. Although a part of the Ministry of Health (MoH), the INS functions with a certain degree of autonomy and has unique responsibilities in the areas of surveillance, laboratory support, and evaluation.

The focus of this direct support to the INS is to build the material and human resources to strengthen and improve the capacity of the INS to generate timely and quality information available for public health program interventions in Mozambique.

The purpose of this opportunity is to strengthen and support the INS in Mozambique. In particular it seeks to improve INS’s operational capacity in the fields of laboratory systems and testing, disease surveillance, monitoring and evaluation, and human resources. Improvements in these key areas should result in improved evidence-based programs for the prevention and control of HIV and other public health issues driven by locally produced data, ultimately resulting public health outcomes, including decreased HIV incidence, and improve public health capacity in Mozambique.
