Social Justice and Human Development for Peace Initiative (JDPC) and Interfaith Mediation Center (IMC) has announced an open call for proposal from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the north-central and North-west geopolitical regions of Nigeria to become sub-recipients of small grants from the Pharos Observatory, France.
JDPC, Interfaith Mediation Centre (IMC) and the Pharos Observatory are working together in Nigeria to promote and protect the right to freedom of religion or belief (or non-belief) as well as freedom of speech, freedom of thought and the right to meet and associate, all of which are intrinsically interwoven. The project is tagged “Support for Defenders of Cultural and Religious Pluralism’’
General Objective
The General Objective is to reinforce the civil rights (protection from discrimination on grounds such as race, gender, national origin, color, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or disability and individual rights such as privacy, the freedoms of thought and conscience, speech and expression, religion or belief, the press, assembly and movement) and political rights (such as the rights of the accused, including the right to a fair trial; due process; the right to seek redress or a legal remedy; and rights of participation in civil society and politics such as freedom of association, the right to assemble).
Specific Objectives
- To strengthen the capacity of institutional actors in promoting pluralism in Nigeria.
- To reduce stigmatization and defamation proceedings against disadvantaged groups as minority religions, poor people, women and most vulnerable members of the community.
- To promote the social inclusion of disadvantaged groups as minority religions, poor people, women and most vulnerable members of society in the delivery of social services.
- To encourage and promote interfaith cooperation through civic education.
- To promote inter-faith/cultural cooperation among people of different faith/culture.
Funding Information
The amount made available under this call for proposals is EUR 25 000.00.
- Lot 1: Reduce stigmatization: EUR 9 000.00
- Lot 2: Promotion of social inclusion: EUR 8 000.00
- Lot 3: Encourage and promote interfaith cooperation: EUR 8 000.00
Size of grants
- Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between the following minimum and maximum amounts:
- minimum amount: EUR 5 000.00
- maximum amount: EUR 10 000.00
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible proposals must:
- Be led by Human Rights Defenders organizations / charities organizations;
- Ensure being carried out at least by two or more organizations in the same targeted country, if possible from different religious/ethnic groups;
- Be based on multiple partnerships.
- Be led by non-profit entity
- The applicant must be registered with Cooperate Affairs Commission (CAC)
- The applicant must provide evidence of work done in any of the thematic areas outlined in this call
- The action must be located and working in the geographical area of this call
- The applicant must have capacity to manage funds efficiently
