Aidsfonds is inviting proposals from organisations advocating for changes at regional level governance bodies and mechanisms in the Southern Africa.
This call for proposals from Aidsfonds is part of the Love Alliance: a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Aidsfonds, UHAI EASHRI, AFE, ISDAO, GALZ, Sisonke, SANPUD and GNP+ which runs from 2021 to 2025.
The Love Alliance aims to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of sex workers, people who use drugs, LGBTIQ+ people, including people living with HIV in Africa. The Love Alliance works towards a significant reduction in HIV incidence by influencing policies, organising communities and raising awareness on health rights in ten countries. Love Alliance brings together organisations led by the communities which are most affected by HIV and AIDS across Africa.
Goals
Proposals under this call work towards one or more of the goals of the Love Alliance:
- Capable, inclusive, influential, and mutually supportive key population movements in an unrestricted civic space.
- An end to sexual, gender-based violence, stigma and discrimination against key populations.
- Equal access to inclusive, people-centred, accountable, integrated HIV and comprehensive sexual rights and health services.
Funding Information
The project duration is for up to 21 months, specifically for the period of 1st April 2022 till 31st December 2023. Each application can submit a budget of a minimum of EUR 10,000 to a maximum amount of EUR 100,000 per year for the entire period of 21 months (i.e. a maximum of EUR 175,000 per proposal in total). The total available amount under this call is EUR 317,000. They encourage networks and organisations that have a focus on gender equality, youth and inclusion to apply for this grant. Aidsfonds is looking to fund 2 to 3 organisations under this grant.
Who is this call for?
This call aims to support Southern African organisations, coalitions, and networks that are part of or well embedded with networks and platforms of LGBTIQ+ people, people who use drugs, sex workers, including people living with HIV who are pursuing advocacy with key stakeholders, institutions and mechanisms in the Southern Africa region.
Aidsfonds is looking for Southern African organisations, coalitions, and networks who are:
- Advocating for an end to sexual violence, gender-based violence, stigma and discrimination against sex workers, LGBTIQ+ people, people who use drugs, including young key populations and people living with HIV.
- Advocating for equal access to inclusive, people-centred, accountable, integrated HIV and sexual and reproductive health services.
- Actively engaged in law and policy reform, implementation of SADC strategy and/or WHO guidelines, pushing for increased funding for community-led programming and responses, and/or inclusion of key populations communities in decision-making processes with various stakeholders at the Southern Africa level.
- Interested in creating or participating in a movement of capable, inclusive, influential, and mutually supportive key population-led organisations in an unrestricted civic space.
- Pursuing advocacy at a regional level in Southern Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible to apply under this grant, your organisation has to meet the following criteria:
- Your organisation is preferably led by members of the following communities: sex workers, LGBTIQ+ people, people who use drugs, including young key populations and people living with HIV.
- Organisations which are not community-led are (only) considered when:
- they are hosting community-led organisations
- are part of a consortium with community-led organisations
- they are a network of community-led organisations
- there are no community-led organisations e.g. for people who use drugs and they channel the voice and ensure the meaningful engagement of LGBTIQ+ people, sex workers, people who use drugs, including people living with HIV, and young key populations.
- Your organisation is a not-for-profit organisation engaged in HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights advocacy at a regional level in Southern Africa.
- Your organisation has been doing this work for at least two years already.
- Your organisation’s regional reach and work must also include at least one of the Love Alliance Southern Africa focus countries, namely: Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

Your organisation is registered with the relevant government department. If your organisation is not registered, you can find a fiscal hosting organisation to support you with the grant. For example, any other nationally registered organisation, such as the national network of people living with HIV, harm reduction programmes, or other network organisations.

You may also apply as a group of organisations together in a consortium. This can include community-led organisations in different Southern Africa countries, harm reduction organisations, universities, other community-based organisations, etc. In this case you apply with one registered lead organisation and at least one community-led organisation in the consortium.
